PR Travel Document Question

Hi All,

I 'landed' in Vancouver on 12th September but had to return to Hong Kong after 2 weeks to sort out everything here for my final move.

I therefore don't have my PR card.

I understand that I have to apply for a PRTD in order to get back into Canada. Is this correct or can I travel back without one?

I am travelling on a British passport and can show my COPR when I land.

Hi

The eTA leniency period has been extended to Nov 9th, so if you fly before then, you will not need a PRTD.

If you fly after Nov 9th and still don't have your PR card, then yes, you will need a PRTD.

One more question if you don't mind. For the application for a PRTD it asks for my Canadian permanent address. at this moment in time I don't have one, any ideas on what i should put in here?

I would just put a friend or family member's address.

the whole form is quite strange, the only reason i need my travel doc is because i didn't spend enough time in vancouver to receive my PR card.

the form has loads of information about what i've been doing etc and it doesn't make a lot of sense as I don't even have my SIN which they request as well

The form is geared more towards those who have been PRs for years but find themselves outside of Canada without their PR card. The questions are to ensure that such applicants still meet the RO.

For any of the questions asking about your history as a PR, just state that you are a new PR and haven't yet received your card.

Ok i'll do that, you're right it is geared towards people who've been out of the country for ages. I've been a PR for less than a month.

The PRTD application form requires me to provide 2 pieces of evidence that show my PR status in Canada

I only have one - my COPR - what should I do?

Submit your COPR and a letter of explanation. As a new PR, there should be no issue.

Rejections happen when people don't meet the RO. You will have no issues.

well that's a relief as I haven't been given a chance to make it yet

As you say the form isn't geared to my circumstances and the cover letter explaining will give more detail than I can submit on the actual form

I was in same sistution and I left the Canada without PR card and I am a new PR but I applied PRTD from Pakistan and I got approval in 2 weeks and last week I came back to canAda? They won't allow u to in without pr card or PRTD . So good luck
