I asked about this in the general thread on top and got no response, so I guess I will try again with a new thread.

My husband landed two months ago, June 23. Mid-July we went to Service Canada for his social insurance number. The woman took a bunch of information and said he wasn't in the system yet. Um ... ?? No worries, they would mail him his number when it became available. Well, we're still waiting and nothing. I am beginning to wonder if maybe he should go back to our border station and make sure everything is okay and in order? I can't think of any reason why getting a SIN should take this long. Something isn't right.

We are also still waiting on his PR card. Does anyone have a current timeline on how long they are taking? We are now over 60 days.

What the previous poster said!

My PR Card took nearly 90 days from landing to receipt.

Go back to Services Canada and try again.

Thanks!

I'm not really too worried about the PR card. I'll get him to go to Service Canada on Monday. I was a bit curious as to whether the information that Service Canada uses (which they claimed wasn't in the system yet) affects issue of the PR card. Because those folks wouldn't have that info, either.

We landed in Vancouver airport about a month ago and an officer at the airport processed the COPR. The next day when we tried to apply for SIN at a Service Canada in downtown Vancouver, they told us our information is not in their computer, and this is most likely due to border agent not submitting the information to Service Canada. They also said this happens a lot and the fastest way to fix it is to go back to the airport and ask CBSA to verify everything was processed properly at the border side.
So we did. The nice lady at the airport told us the officer who processed it last night somehow didn't save and she processed our paperwork as if we just landed.
After thanking her we went straight back to Service Canada and my wife was able to obtain SIN right away.

This is actually what I suspect happened with my husband, which is why I told him he should go over to the border station first.

I am certain that the CBSA guys will have mailed the original paperwork long ago to the CIC offices in Nova Scotia that deal with the issuing of PR cards (takes a few days to a week to get there). Once it gets to them, they will check and do whatever inputs are necessary as they ultimately need to generate your PR card. Honestly, try Services Canada again for a SIN, it should be fine after this elapsed time.

I landed on June 19, received my SIN right away and last week I received my PR card by mail, 63 days after.

Husband's PR card arrived in the mail today, so I guess another trip to Service Canada is on the agenda this week. Hopefully, we can get the SIN issue sorted quickly and easily. *fingers crossed*

I have similar issue: we landed at the Toronto Airport but the system went down at the time so we only had our PR confirmation paper signed without it being entered into the system. After 2-3 weeks and many phone calls, we still haven't been able to get any SIN because they haven't entered yet. I am thinking about going back to the airport to have this resolved.
@CanadianZenGirl/@sunMoon: How did you go back to the airport to talk to the officer? I don't know whether they would allow me to go back to the terminal. Whom should I talk to? Thanks in advance.

There should be a CBSA office open to the public in every airport. It may say "agriculture" on the outside. Ask a CBSA officer walking around.

Thanks for your help. I called again before going and they told me that my landing was confirmed on the same day of the previous call but my husband was not. Then a few days later, they called me to ask for my flight number and some other information. The next day, they called me again to ask for the address to send the PR cards and let us know that we could get the SIN. It looked like they lost our original confirmation of PR at the airport because those information should be on there :\
