Yes, it is possible. You can enter Canada at the land border with your landing papers.

Hi
I am interested in this subject. I understand from this that the nearest city is Buffalo, NY, USA. If I am coming from UAE which is the nearest city in US the international flight will reach and how to travel from there to Buffalo and to the Canadian border.

Private car means does it have to be your own car or somebody from Canada can come and pick me up from Buffalo. Is Rent a Car OK.
Are there any people specialising in offering such transport services as I am sure a lot of people do take this route.

Please share whatever information you know.

Thank you.

The air distance between Anchorage, Alaska and UAE seems to be the shortest (about 10152km). From Anchorage, the nearest border is not Buffalo but should be Beaver creek in Yukon territory. Rent car is ok (so as your private boat or bicycle).

Anchorage is not exactly a big city so finding a direct flight from Dubai to there is unlikely. Looking on a website for a cheap flight from Dubai to Anchorage, the cheapest were passing through the US east cost or through Europe so going around the globe in that direction, it would be cheaper for him to go to Buffalo and enter there.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies. What about if I arrive in New York Airport or Chicago Airport, Will it not be near from there to the to the border of Canada to come to Toronto. There is a bus service from New York to Toronto, but I cannot take that as that is public transport, but I suppose the road through which they drive is the same.

Also I think KLM has a flight to Michigan and from there can I come to Windsor. Is that OK? As I know lots of people stay in Windsor and go to work in Michigan by car and come back. Is there is border crossing.

If somebody from Canada comes to pick me up with their private car, is that OK?

Thanks for your replies.

The only thing they mean by "private car" is that it is not a bus/taxi/train/limo service. Don't pay anyone for the transport and it counts just fine. You can spot your friend gas money, though, I'm sure that's fine.

I don't even know if the reasoning for this is a CIC/CBSA problem. Most transport companies (bus/train/air) require a passport or PR card to transport you because it's a liability issue for them if you're denied entry and they have to return you to your departure point.

Right, it's not a CIC problem in regards to the individual but it is in regards to the commercial carrier who transports you. CIC has made the commercial carriers responsible for the people they transport so they do not want to transport someone to Canada if they don't have a valid visa or a PR card or a visa exempt passport. Nobody will stop you from buying a plane ticket but the airline will not let you board without valid travel documents.

Going in your own car, having somebody pick you up in a private car, renting a car in the US to drive across or going on foot would not be a problem.

Thank you guys for the replies.

Which route do you think is better.

New York to Buffalo by bus (I think this is within US and will be regarded as a local or domestic travel within US) and then take a rent a car or somebody to pick me up to enter Canada.
I do not think walking across is possible for me as I guess the distance is quite long.

or
Arrive in Michigan and then come to Windsor.

I've crossed Detroit-Windsor by a private car (both by the bridge and the tunnel)a few times with my passport, landing papers and the expired PR Card without any problem. I even took the Transit once and got in, it was a risk though.

The Michigan arrival would be easier I think, less bus. It's also a much shorter drive to Toronto, maybe an hour and a half, depending on where in Toronto you live.

Thank you Puma and Drewysmith. I think Detroit will be a better choice. My place is Mississauga.
I think the Immigration Officer at Detroit is likely to ask for a contact address in Detroit.
I cannot tell him that I want to go to Windsor and he will ask me to show the Canada PR Card.
Any contacts in Detroit.
Once I travelled from Dubai to Washington DC and on to Toronto by United Airways and at DC I cannot exactly remember if he asked me for the PR Card as I had a valid PR I did not bother much.

What is Transit by the way. Is it a Train from Detroit to Windsor.

Hi

My immigration consultant tells me that they will give a letter to the Border Office for which they will charge me $ 750. Is such a letter required.

It's the Windsor Transit bus which runs betwen Windsor and Detroit. It's a public transport.
