1. With a draft it will take at least 30 days to clear. T/C and some cash are the way to go.
2. Try HSBC to open an account in Canada.

For carrying funds, PMM is bang-on right.

For opening a Canadian bank a/c from India, Scotiabank gives u the opportunity. It's also one of the best banks in Canada, visibility wise more branches & ATM machines) besides CIBC and TD Bank. Scotiabank has a specific a/c for us thru their 'Start Right' program.
