Hi guys, I'm a Canadian permanent resident with an expired PR Card and I plan to travel back to Canada on September 7th. I'm currently in the UK as I came to visit my extremely sick mother in an emergency. I mistakenly thought that my PR Card was expiring in Nov 2017 but it expired in Nov 2016 and I only discovered this the night before travelling. Before boarding my flight I was escorted by my airline to immigration due to my situation and I was told that I needed to apply for an ETA. Upon arrival, I tried to apply for the ETA but was surprised to see that this does not apply to permanent residents and that I need a PRTD. However I do not have many documents with me apart from my proof of landing and my expired PR Card. I have been living in Canada continuously since September 2013 so I do fulfill the residency obligations but I'm unsure of how to prove this without any documentation. I know this is a complicated situation and any help would be appreciated.

Plus making a big assumption that the OP may be a UK passport holder so will need an ESTA if they do not have a US visa to follow through option 2

You have 2 options
1. Apply for PR TD from UK VAC (Visa Application Centre). Just submit all proofs that you have of your PR status, and an explanation of why you're applying for PR TD.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/travel-document/index.asp
http://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/UnitedKingdom/contact_us.html

2. Fly to USA, and enter into Canada via land border. For this you don't need PR TD, CBSA can determine your PR status just from your passport, expired PR card, etc.
In terms of proof, would my OSAP assessment summaries along with my university student account and my credit card statements for the last 2 years suffice as proof of my residency? I also have my drivers license and health card. Should I also attach photocopies of those?

Thank you for your advice

Yes, all that will definitely help. I would include everything.
Also on the PR TD form you will provide your SIN, so the visa office can see you've been filing Canadian tax returns regularly.

This is probably too late, but you can also grab photocopies of your tax returns, etc. online from the cra website too.
