Hi,

I have an outland spousal sponsorship.

I have received a letter from the embassy asking for the passport and other required documents, police certificates etc before they issue the visa and CoPR.

Since I don't need a visa to enter Canada, what is the use of sending the original passport.
Has anyone NOT send their passport (visa exempted to Canada) to the embassy?

If they have asked for you passport, you should indeed send it whether you are exempted or not. If you fail to comply, you will not get your COPR. You could contact them and ask if a copy of the bio data page is sufficient, but they might be wanting to see the physical passport to match up to claimed travels or for some other reason.

Are you sure they are asking for the actual passport and not just a copy? In any case, I would definitely call them and ask. I suppose someone COULD have made an error and asked for the actual passport. Like the other poster suggested, though, if you don't get an answer, I would do what they say and send it. Can't hurt to ask first, though.
