Passport copy request

hi everyone
So im sponsoring my husband and the visa office requested a copyyy of my husbands passport. We sent it yesterday and im wondering usually after how long do they send an email requesting the Realll passport?

In the email they also mentioned they are near finalization of your application
Anyone know when they might send the PPR?
Why did they request the copy?

And what do you mean what stage? The background check was done and then they requested his medical and after the medical within 2 weeks they sent an email saying they want a copy of his passport, eye color and height to finalize the application

Does your need visa to enter Canada? If he is from visa exempt countries then they might issue PPR without having the actual passport.
