Hi guys, this is for a friend of mine as I've already become a permanent resident :)

Can a person use full time paid job in a non-profit organization as a work experience?

My friend has been a fitness instructor in YMCA (non-profit organization) in Canada for more than 12 months (not continuous though) while on working holiday visa.

His role is NOC category B - 5254.

NOC code details: http://www23.statcan.gc.ca/imdb/p3VD.pl?CLV=4&CPV=5254&CST=01012011&CVD=122376&Function=getVD&MLV=4&TVD=122372

Thank you! ;)

It counts as work experience as long as it is paid, legal work & this person is on their employee payroll. As long as someone in YMCA is willing to write that person a proof of employment letter and provide paystub, it should be fine.

I am applying with only non-profit experiences since this is the only field of work I had experience in!

Cheers!

It is classified as skilled, so why not?

My friend has been a fitness instructor in YMCA (non-profit organization) in Canada for more than 12 months (not continuous though) while on working holiday visa.

Since you state it was not continuous, the only concern is whether the experience meets the 1 year requirement or not.

To be considered 1 year of employment, it has to be a combined total of 52 weeks of full-time work (30 or more hours per week) - or the equivalent in part-time work (by definition, will take more than a calendar year to meet the 1 year requirement).
