It is heartening to see u settled soon. Could u please throw light on accomaration .which part of toronto ur staying .what is the basic rent for a single bedroom apartment in a modest locality. IAM also from chennai .with gods will soon I will
be in toronto.

Hi Vasala,

We are staying in Malton, Mississauga. Here a single bedroom apartment costs anywhere from 900$ to 1000$. If you are OK with a basement apartment, you could easily get one from 450$ to 800$. Only thing I can suggest you is look for a place close to shopping areas for the ease of it.

Good to know that Indira. Mississauga is a very nice place to live in, Closer to the airport. but a bit distant to the Downtown Toronto but you'd see lots of Indians and Pakistanis over there.
I'd still not recommend you to relocate to Saskatchewan,kids would not love it so far from a crowded city like Toronto. are Architects need to sit for any licensing exam before applying to jobs?
it would be real hard to secure a job i guess without a Canadian Arch degree.

Yes Architects have a very regulated profession here and it's a 3 step process for licensing. Prab just applied to the CACB(the federal architectural board) for evaluation for his academic credentials. We can expect a response within 3 months. The total time would be around a year and a half may be : :.

For now, he is exploring into some coop programs that could be useful for him

Hi Indira

I went to Regina (Saskatchewan) once and indeed there is lot of construction activity there. You can see that place is expanding but I still believe that Toronto may have more options than Regina merely because of its size. Yeah, establishing yourself in a regulated profession is a big challenge but I hope things will work for you guys sooner than later.

Also, Malton is good choice for initial stay as accommodation is not very expensive and there is big group of immigrants in Malton from Canadavisa forum itself.

I would say a $1500 for 2, living in a basement, without a car 8)

One should not consider living in basements due to the risk of getting serious consequences like Fire could broke out anytime and there are absolutely no or very little windows to make an exit for both the people inside and for the smoke.

Update from my side:

Folks, We are doing well, I got a job in a month of landing and currently looking for a better one. Prab is attending the Co Op course for internationally trained professionals. Our kid loves his new school and friends and Canada is gearing up for Christmas.

Christmas is already in the air here!

We did get a chance to meet a handful of our forum members and it's great to be a part of the group here.
