option C shows Balance due to CRA

Hi All,

I am going to sponser my spouse. I need to have an Option C document for that. Now the below series of events happened.

1. I got a re-assessment in mid Mar 2015 for year 2012 and CRA asked me to pay $3700.00 due to some wrong calculations between CRA and my employer.
2. I have already filed tax for 2014 income and I was entitled to receive $2600.00 as Tax return
3. Now CRA did an adjustment $2600.00 (from 2014 Tax return) as I owe them $3700.00, so they released a NOA of 2014 showing Balance Due is $ (3700-2600) 1100.00

So I have a NOA of 2014 showing 1100 CAD is due to CRA but I have paid those $1100.00 to CRA. My account statement in CRA (My Account) shows balance as 0 CAD but the NOA of 2014 won't change. So will it be OK to apply for her PR even if NOA shows some balance due to CRA.

Please advise.

Don't worry about it,you will be just fine.They only want to see if you have been on welfare.

The "Option C" that I was sent by the CRA didn't even have anything saying "Option C" on it at all. It said something like "Tax Return Information" at the top, was 3 pages long, and had much of the same information as the Notice of Assessment. It took approximately 2 weeks to get it after I called the CRA.

Send in the Option C that they ask for, but also send in the NOA and just write a few sentences explaining what happened nad that you are in good standing with CRA. It won't matter either way as they are only checking that you aren't receiving welfare, but it doesn't hurt to just clarify what is on the Option C!
