Hi, just wondering... what exactly is an option C printout? i've received my T4 over the last few wks and is this not sufficient? Will I have to send the Option C printout along with my application to sponsor my husband? Can I leave a note saying its pending? This will take long to get from what I understand.

It's not the same, which is why the Option C is on the document checklist.

Unless things have changed recently, it takes about 10 days to receive in the mail.

the Option C form can be easily obtained for any year that taxes have been filed by calling the CRA. As ponga said, it does not take long to get at all. CIC will not accept t4s or NOA as a substitute. the only substitute CIC seems to accept is 12 months of paychecks and a letter of explanation. Just sending a t4 will not cut it. CIC needs to know for sure you did not use welfare or applied for bankruptcy. Just supplying a t4 or NOA does noes confirm this form CIC. technically, a person can still work and receive welfare at the same time. that is one reason why they request this specific document.

I did not send in a Option C. However i was living abroad and had been living there for four years. I sent a NOA for the previous year and a letter from my employer that stated I had been working for them for the past 3 years and I had no problems.

This may all be due to me being outside the country however. If you are in Canada and have no barriers to getting this document then you should probably just do it the easy way. Remember as a family class they don't care if you are only making minimum wage. Just no welfare or bankruptcy and you are fine.

yes, that is probably the reason. an option c is not required if the sponsor is outside of canada because it is not possible to get for most people.
