Reposting my post here :

I recently moved here from USA to maintain my PR. I already had landed last yr. i had a job transfer within my company to come here.
Need advice from seniors in Ontario for 2 things:
1. it will be my 3 months inside ontario continuously.
Whats the process of applying OHIP.
2. Child Tax benefit
As far as i understand there are 2 different ones- federal & state. I havent submitted my Income tax yet, is it possible to get it started or I need to wait until next yr ?

Waiting for a good advice
thanks in advance

In order to qualify for OHIP, you need to commit to staying 5 months out of the next 6 but you still get your OHIP card after 3. Here is how to apply: https://www.services.gov.on.ca/locations/serviceDetails.do?id=11282

As for the federal child tax benefit, if you haven't yet worked in Canada, cra will give you the option of providing information about your foreign income in the past 2 years. See http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/cctb/menu-eng.html for info and forms.

Here's info on the Ontario child tax benefit: http://www.children.gov.on.ca/htdocs/English/topics/financialhelp/ocb/howdoi.aspx but for that you need to have filed taxes.
