Hi folks,
It's been a while since I posted, and I was more active in the family class forums, but thought I should at least say hi as this thread popped up in my google alerts for the omnibus budget bill - wish I'd seen it earlier.
I'm now working as the Campaigns Director for Leadnow.ca (a national non-profit advocacy organization with 150,000 supporters) and we put a huge effort into fighting this bill, including two national days of action: http://heroes.leadnow.ca/live/
C-38 has now passed the senate and received royal assent last Friday, so is now law unfortunately. Many peoples lives will be seriously hurt by it, and the damage to our environment and democracy will be felt for a long time.
We'll be doing much much more work to defend our shared values and fix Canada's democracy (which has given hope to so many immigrants, and is now going through a very dark patch) - if you're interested, please join us - just sign up on the home page at http://www.leadnow.ca and we'll keep you in the loop about the C-38 follow up and the rest of our work.
Best wishes to you all, I apologize to those of you negatively affected by the immigration system changes on behalf of the great many Canadians who care about having a fair immigration system, and not pulling the rug out from under people as they are waiting their turn patiently - all I can say is that we will fix our democracy and repair the damage done once Harper is forced out, but it will take time.
