Hey,

This is what I took:

- Passport
- Copy of main passport page + TRV
- Copy of current status document
- Resume
- Job Description
- Positive LMO
- Job Offer Letter

I took a print out of the current processing times page from CIC. They will ask you why you are applying at the border and not applying inland. Be prepared to justify this. (For me it was because my job starts in two weeks but processing time is 54 days)

Two questions:
1. Can you still do if you have already applied for the work permit but it is long waiting period ( currently 75 days)?. if you are successful in flag pole then withdraw application else the application continues
2. What document is needed for "job description"? any support letter from employer?

1. I'm not too aware of this situation. But if you've been waiting 75 days I would suggest just wait since its probably around the corner. Going to the POE might screw up plans even more.

2. There must have been a job description when you were applying. Else, how did you know what the job was? The employer might have it or you could print it off the original job posting.

I have a question.

I am NOT from visa-exempt country, and my WP will be expired at the end of this month. I just got a new LMO from a new employer. However, I do NOT have valid TRV. Can I still go to the border and apply for the new WP at the port of entry? Is there a chance that I will not be able to go back to Canada?

Thank you.

I am not waiting for 75 days. My current job ends at November 30 but the new work permit may not come before end of December . So I will be without job for 1 month min.
If somebody with the same experience ( got work permit at POE with pending inland application at veggreville)
Could give feedback it will be helpful.

I had a pending application at vegreville that I submitted online about 3 weeks before going to the POE. The processing of the application was not started yet when I went to POE so it was not visible to the CBSA immigration officiers. When I received my work permit at the POE I called CIC to withdraw my online application and they told me that it will be automatically withdrawn and refunded when an immigration officer starts its processing and realize that I already received a work permit.

If the processing of your application has already started and you went to the POE, I guess if the CBSA officer notices it he/she will ask you if you want to cancel it in order to process your work permit at the POE

Thanks buddy this was great input. Do you have any idea which border is best the person staying in national capital region ( Ottawa)? I need to take my wife and small kid along so the one which is near but also helpful border POE would be the preference

Hi theoffspring/bananawolf,

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with getting a WP at the POE.

So just to clarify, if I have a positive LMO and a valid "closed"/restricted WP (from past employment) and a U.S. visa, I can exit Canada, go to the POE and request a new WP at that point?

Also to confirm - I don't have a valid Canadian TRV (i.e. entry document - different from WP, I understand); I have read the laws/rules quoted here and understand that as long as I'm only going to the US and coming back, I don't need that - right??

Do they ask if you're still working for the past employer? I might leave and take some time off between jobs due to some personal/family reasons....

Thanks very much!!

Hello again,

Apologies for repeating myself but I want to be absolutely sure before I "exit" the country to get a WP at a POE - if I were to have already quit the last job (the one which the current WP is for) and I have the +ve LMO for the new one, does the fact that I would be "in limbo" between the 2 jobs have any bearing on being granted the new WP and re-entry?

Was anyone asked if they were still working for the previous employer? and/or does that affect the officer's assessment?

If so, I'd rather be safe and wait for the regular online processing etc....

Many thanks in anticipation....

^^ border officers don't know that you left or got fired from the job mentionned in your work permit, unless you tell them of course. I was laid off from the job in my work permit when I went to the border for a new WP and no one asked me if I still work there. Also keep in mind that the officer who processes your work permit is not the same one who lets you enter Canada. At the border, the first agent you meet decides whether to let you in or not, then once you are allowed inside Canada you can go to the immigration office to apply for a work permit. Even if your WP application is declined, you have already entered Canada legally based on the documentation checked by the previous agent.

Hi there,

I'm already in Canada, I would like to know if I can i get my new WP for my new employer at the border if I already sent my application by mail? I do have my current closed WP which will expire on 2014. Are they going to ask me questions about me getting my WP at the border and do I need to pay the application fee again? Is there a risk applying at the border when you're already in Canada?

Anyone in the same situation? Many thanks !

they receive my application at Oct.10, it says on the website the average processing time for NY office is 2 month, so it should come through early next month, cross my fingers =.=
