Hello everyone,

I applied for passport recently and put my name based on my current passport from my home country. However, my PR had an extra letter in my first name because my previous passport had my first name spelled with an extra K, so KH vs H in my current passport. I have never had issues while travelling or anything else. So in my certificate they put my first name as KH based on PR card. Passport Canada is asking for a new Certificate or an ID that shows my name with KH. I asked on my passport application to have my name based on my current passport which is without K. But Passport Canada is not accepting it. Has anyone encountered the same issue? What is the best course of action? To apply for a new citizenship certificate which will take 5-6 months.?

I know someone who is in the same boat. Updating the citizenship certificate is the way forward. It will take time but you wouldn't have to deal with it again (hopefully).

Thanks for your reply. It is going to be a looooong process, but hopefully not as bad.

I know it sucks. One of my friends did this may not work for all and too late for you.

Basically, immediately after his Oath, he went to the officer directly who was assisting in the oath ceremony. She was very nice and was able to fix the name on the spot and printed a new certificate for him. It saved him some $$ and time. Worth a shot if someone can catch the opportunity at the right time.
