Will my wife be allowed to leave after getting PR or is there a required time she stay here?

The reason I ask is it is her mom's birthday in Korea around the expected approval date.

Thanks a million
Scott

She can leave anytime no problem.

But coming back could be a problem. Technically, as a PR, you need to have your PR card to board an airline. It can take 60+ days to get your PR card once landing (they will not mail it to an address outside Canada).

However, since she is from a visa-exempt country she should be able to board with just her Korean passport and at customs in Canada they can look up her PR status in the system and let her in.

The only other issue I can think of to be aware of is if she is in Ontario, she needs to spend 153 of her first 183 days in Ontario to qualify and keep OHIP. If she goes to Korea and then stays for over a month, then obviously she cannot fulfill that requirement. I don't think the other provinces have such a strict rule.

There is no such thing as an "expected approval date" when it comes to CIC. It could be months before or after the date you're thinking of.

If she does get her application approved around the time she wanted to go back to Korea, then she could go back to Korea and not "land" as PR with her COPR documents until she returns to Canada.

Or as keesio mentioned, if she landed already and is waiting for PR card in the mail, she could travel as a visa-exempt passport holder. Sometimes i've heard that Korean airlines in Korea can be picky, as they may ask to see a return ticket back to Korea before they let you board the plane. I think this is rare though, so she should be ok.

If the PR card arrived in the mail in Canada while she was in Korea, then the card could also just be couriered to her in Korea.
