And either way , she will not have health care until , for outland.. til she lands plus three months
Not quite true, Gemmie. Each province has its own health care coverage rules for newcomers from another province and immigrants from another country. Check health coverage for each province by following this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/newcomers/after-health.asp

The first two provinces I checked, Alberta and Saskatchewan, for example, allow immediate coverage for new immigrants after they apply with the proper documents. Of course they say "might" or "may be eligible" to make sure they cover all bases. Then I checked Ontario and it says 3 month waiting period for all. I quote from these three provincial health websites.

If you are moving or returning to Alberta from outside Canada, you might be eligible for coverage on the date of your arrival. You must register within 3 months of arrival. Newcomers to Canada are required to present a copy of their Canada entry document along with their other supporting documents.

Saskatchewan Health covers health services for certain special classes of newcomers from outside Canada who move to Saskatchewan on or before the first day of the third calendar month after arriving in Canada. If you are among the groups identified below, you may be eligible for benefits from the day you move to Saskatchewan.

permanent residents (landed immigrants)
people discharged from the Canadian Forces
non-immigrants who are in Canada in connection with their trade or profession
international students
returning spouses of Canadian Forces members
returning Canadian citizens
returning residents

OHIP coverage normally becomes effective three months after the date you establish residency in Ontario. The ministry strongly encourages new and returning residents to purchase private health insurance in case you become ill during the OHIP waiting period.

So that's after the sponsor is approved for inland right?
Or after landing from outland applications.

Regardless, its good information and great for the person to know and have an idea about when they factor in their decision.
When thinking of all this , not once did my spouse or I even think about healthcare for my husband when he is visiting here.

Seems to be after they have landed. I never bothered to get into the details of inland applications since mine was always going to be outland. So appears to be after they have "landed" as inland immigrants too but as always check the specific provincial rules and have all documents ready.

I knew a Filipino engineer who immigrated with his family before 2000 and they wanted Alberta but chose Saskatchewan because the wife was pregnant and needed immediate health coverage. I had to show him the Alberta rules to indicate that he had misread them or not found the relevant rule and they would have probably been covered right away.

How long does it normally take to get the email from CIC with regards with SA approval once ECAS shows Decision Made?

It was noted last week that the status was changed to DM, but we have not received any emails from CIC. Any ideas?

It was over 10 days for me. However, DM is 90% approved. Good luck..

1. Yes - You can and will not be a problem at all.
2. Yes - It's possible, altough, not every VO send AoR2. Some just send it when you ask.
Thank you for your help DanSlh :)

After 86 days, we finally got "unofficial" verbal confirmation that we got SA! The call center agent said that we would receive correspondence from CIC within two weeks. :)

I actually have not received mine despite calling the CIC twice, and them claiming they emailed it, twice.

I suspect I'm the outlier here.

I called and got verbal confirmation of SA, and I see it on ecas, but I have no email and no letter despite receiving SA over a month ago (and their claims that they sent something).

Did you check what email address they have on file? Likely an error in the email address, unless you choose snail mail.

Hmm, that is interesting to note. I am assuming all communication will be via email since I did receive my AOR (and so the email address should be okay).

It looks like I will have to give them a call to find out which VO my wife's file was sent to (assuming SA was granted). It would be greatly appreciated if someone could kindly post the CIC call center number here. Thank you in advance.

My wife is originally from Bangladesh and she holds a Bangladeshi passport. From this, we expected the file to be sent to Singapore initially. However, I am starting to think that they might send the file to the Abu Dhabi VO instead, as my wife holds a temporary ID card of Qatar (having lived there for a large portion of her life) and our marriage took place there (with the original marriage certificate being in Arabic). There is also a very very slim possibility of the file being sent to the Sydney office as my wife currently resides in Australia as an international student (and has lived there for over a year in a multitude of 4 month periods). As such, I am curious to know where our file was transferred to, which may - in turn - give us a rough idea of how long this wait will turn out to be...

I just realized that my ECAS shows "In Process" for both applications, instead of "Application Received". I'm guessing that this happened sometime today. We still haven't received official SA correspondence from CIC, but I guess they have already started my application! :D Has anyone else ever seen both applications as "In Process" on their ECAS?
