Hi All,

I have a masters degree in Computer Scienece and my work since 2010 has been
More on programming (coding) software applications.
When I see the requirements for NOC 2174 in NOC catalogue I did not see Masters degree listed.
It says usually a Bachelors in Computer Science is needed with exposure to programming.

However in NOC 2173 it does mention Masters or Doctoral degree needed if required for the job.

This is a little bit concerning for me and makes me think again on my choice of NOC.

How much the indicated requirements for particular NOC actually matter in decisions ?
Also my designation has always been Software Engineer and now Senior Software Engineer but my duties and responsibilities match almost entirely to 2174. Is it wise to stick with 2174 ?

Thanks for your responses in advance !

When I looked through the forum and older posts..
It is almost unanimous that people talk about mentioning NOC based on duties and responsibilities than designation itself..

I also personally believe that companies use Software Engineer designation rather loosely.
I am guessing mainly to fit the employee within a certain bracket.
And one should mention the NOC based on their work rather than designation..

2173 / 2174

The duties, roles, responsibilities can't be mapped one to one.

I am designated as Software Engineer. I perform several tasks, projects that are a mix of 2173, 2174.

I did my masters MBA and have 5 years experience.

Chose 2173 for EE. Got all the detailed mentioned in my reference letter by Manager on plain paper, notarised,

and submitted along with his business card.

The VO I suppose are trained to understand and take decision based on their experience.

The VO may not be a person who fully understand the technicalities. How he arrives at a decision is not known.

Yes, applied to CIC last month and waiting for their response . The designation and roles written on my company letter head provided by the HR . During SINP, they did not asked for any additional document regarding my job responsibilities . Hope they accessed it properly and verified those roles and responsibilities written during submission ..
