Just want to share my experience at my medical.

I went to St. Lukes Extension at Jorge Bocobo. They have very polite staff and very systematic and orderly procedure. I waited for the result of my ecg and chest xray.( they start calling out names by 3 p.m). Tapos ang medical ko within a day. I went there at 8:30 and done before 5 p.m.

May I suggest though that way before you go for medical at the accredited Canadian clinic, have a chest xray taken by a private doctor . The reason for this is because Canada is very strict when it comes to contagious diseases such as t.b. I met some who's xray result showed problem with their lungs and they are told to come back for 3 consecutive days for sputum test. This will delay your departure. Sputum will be cultured for 3 months. This means that it's only after 3 months that they will know if you are positive or negative. If the sputum test turns out to be positive, they will require you to go to a pulmonologist for treatment. Actually after a medication of an anti-tb drug called Rifampicin and Ethambutols the sputum may become NEGATIVE in two weeks time (total treatment will be 6 months therapy) but the clinic will require you to finish the 6 months full therapy. Hence, another 6 months delay.

When you receive a letter from CIC Canada for medical, you are required to undergo medical within 30 days from the receipt of the letter. Therefore even before you receive the letter, in order to avoid this delay, I reiterate that you go for a chest xray on your own. Pag may nakitang problem, go to a pulmologist right away to get the medication. This is to ensure that when you go to the Canadian accredited clinic you are sure to pass your chest xray.

They are not strict with diabetes and hypertension.

By the way, St. Lukes Extension requires 6 photos instead of the 2 stated in the CIC letter.

For further info, I received my request for medical 2 months after my daughter received the letter that she qualifies to sponsor me. They sent the letter for medical to my email address.

May this little feed back help those who are still awaiting their medical.....

oh no it was not that great...i mean my RN experience in the UK, but glad it helped. Sana hindi ka mahirapan dito, kasi regulated ang RNs dito sa BC. I am not sure kung magiging RN ka agad dito kung wala kang experience. Sana kahit volunteer ka jan siguro maging OK lalo na kung sa public ka volunteer. They love volunteers.

Btw, I am wondering about counselling. Just to confirm with you, is it OK to use photo copy of passport. May mga kapatid pa kasi ako jan sa atin na dependents sa application ng tatay ko. Kung sa Manila, kelangan pa ba mag pa book ng appointment?

We just had our medical and the clinic gave us a letter address to an ophthalmologist requiring a report from said doctor regarding the significance and medical implication to rule out diabetic retinopathy which was noted during our eye examination . ( both my husband and I are diabetic). May I know if anyone in this forum encountered same ? Is there any procedure that the ophthalmologist will perform on us ?

Hi po,

I posted this already on the other thread you are following.
If the DMP referred you to an opthalmologist he/she knows, I suggest you refuse and pick an opthalmologist on your own. Yes, you have the right to do that. Basically, what your DMP requires you to complete is a medical clearance certificate from a specialist. My dad had to see 4 specialists because the first three are not competitive, I would say. They asked my dad to have CT SCAN which I absolutely refused because I trust that my dad's medical case is innate and if it is really necessary for my dad to get that CT SCAN, I told the DMP over the phone that I would prefer MRI here in Canada. i can easily get my dad to have MRI here in Canada. Thankfully, we found a specialist in the Philippines who has a US education background.

The opthalmologist will just do thorough physical examination of your eyes. It should not take more than 1 hour. Maker sure to pick a reputable opthalmologist. My parents are from the Philippines po.

Thank you for your reply.
I am from Manila. I actually already asked around . Asian Eye said that we need to undergo a one day test, kasi they will inject pa daw dye to determine if our eyes is affected by our diabetes. I'm looking for an optha who has already issued such certification to the Canadian Embassy para sana sigurado yong kanyang gagawin.

Anyway, thank you very much
