I have mixed feelings about this. I support her and sympathize with what she went through, but how about the government does something concrete to speed up real citizenship applications?

Buddy its just a friendly gesture by Canada to show the world that we care. As far as real citizenship is concerned the suffering continues and so does the government arrogance. Besides unlike honorary citizenship real citizenship has value which is why they wont give it easily

It means we appreciate your contribution to humanity and this is your reward but you cannot live in our country and neither can you take advantage of any social services

But why not give her full citizenship? I mean she deserve it. Why not have her represent Canada? Give her the PR and let her go thru the citizenship process. That of course, if she wants to go thru it.

Its not that easy, she has to become a PR first for that she needs education, work experience and qualify through the points system. Besides she got shot in afghanistan had this happened in canada then i can understand canadas obligation to give her citizenship

Honorary Canadian citizenship (French: Citoyenneté canadienne honoraire) is an honour wherein Canadian citizenship is bestowed by the Governor-General-in-Council,[1] with the approval of parliament where appropriate,[2] on foreigners of exceptional merit. It is a symbolic honour; the recipient does not take the Oath of Citizenship and thus does not receive any rights, privileges, or duties typically held by a Canadian citizen.[2]

So it's not actually a Canadian citizenship at all...
