Maintaining canada PR

Once I pass the visa interview what do I need to do to maintain Canada PR if I do not wish to move to Canada immediately.

Once you get your PR visa in your passport, you will have a time limit to land in Canada. You have to land before the visa expires.

Once you land, you become a PR. In your first 5 years as a PR, you need to spend at least 730 days in Canada to keep it and after that, 730 days in any 5 year period. That means after you land, if you leave again, you can be gone up to 3 years but then you must come back for 2.

I am working in US and do not intend to move to canada in the near future. What should I do in this case.

You should land before your visa expires. If you land shortly before your visa expires, you buy a little more time because the clock to maintain PR doesn't start ticking until you land. After you land, you can go back to the US.

Once you are outside Canada for more than 1095 days in your first 5 year period as a PR, you have officially lost your PR due to residency requirements but between this time and your PR card expiring, you would still have a chance to go back undetected and take up work in Canada as if nothing had happened. If you were to do that, be aware that you would not be able to apply for your PR card until you meet the residency requirements of having stayed 2 years again which means that after your PR card expired and until you can apply for a new one, you would not be able to travel.
