You can try to e-mail them, but chances are they may not reply. I can't tell you how long it'll be, but I would think they would contact you for PPR next if there's no complications :)
Thanks for support. I've been waiting so long. Sometimes, I really don't know what to do next.

Hello All,
Does any one know - what are the steps to import US car in to Canada which is financed or under loan ?
So I called my finance company and they said I need to pay in full in order to import the car into Canada. Do you guys have any of your experiences to share or could please provide me some guidance here ? and what other things I should be careful about while importing ?

Thanks for you help ! Appreciate it

Hi! We are going through the same thing! Sadly, you need to pay it off in order to import it as you need the title in your hand. Some Canadian banks will talk to your fianace company and try to figure it out, you can attempt that. But it depends on a lot of stuff. We had to pay ours off, thanks to a loan from a family member. I would call the bridge you plan on crossing to see what they say. And here are some things to read over:

http://www.riv.ca/RecallClearance.aspx

http://www.riv.ca/CostConsiderations.aspx

I e-mailed MTO and got this information:

Your first step is to contact the Registrar of Imported Vehicles <http://www.riv.ca> at 1-888-848-8240 or email at info@riv.ca to determine admissibility, fees required, and information on how to proceed for importation of a vehicle into Canada. For information on which vehicles may be imported, you can also contact: Transport Canada - Vehicle Importation <http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/roadsafety/safevehicles-importation-index-443.htm > at (613)998-8616 or 1-800-333-0371.

When a vehicle is brought into Canada, in most cases you will have to pay duty and taxes. For information on federal taxes, please contact the Canada Border Services Agency <http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5048-eng.html >. Please note that the imported vehicles must meet all federal government requirements prior to registration.

Once you’ve imported the vehicle and have met the RIV and customs requirement, these documents are to be presented to a Driver & Vehicle Licence Issuing Office for registration of vehicle:

1. Title of vehicle.
2. Form 1 - issued by Canada Border Services Agency/Customs.
3. A Safety Standards Certificate (SSC).
4. A Drive Clean Vehicle Emissions Pass Report. For more information on the Ministry of the Environment’s Drive Clean Program, call the Drive Clean Call Centre at 1-888-758-2999 or (905) 837-5839 or visit the Drive Clean <http://www.driveclean.com> web site.
5. Proof of Ontario insurance on the vehicle.
6. Odometer information for passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles (3000 kg or less and for personal and business use only).
7. Valid proof of identification, for both registrants when you want to jointly register the vehicle

Fees: $20.00 for licence plates and a vehicle permit (if you physically have the plates previously issued in Ontario, you may have them re-attached). You will also be required to buy plate validation from the date of vehicle registration to the assigned validation expiry. Fees will be calculated according to the class of vehicle and declaration(s).

Since the vehicle is not being transferred to a new individual but remaining in your name, it is not necessary to pay the retail sales tax on the vehicle. Taxes are to be paid if vehicle is being transferred into a new registrant's name. However, please note that taxes fall under the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance. For more information on tax exemptions please contact the Ministry of Finance at 1-800-263-7965 or visit their website http://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/tax/rst/.

Vehicle registration will be processed at a ServiceOntario Driver & Vehicle Licence Issuing Office in your area. For ServiceOntario Driver and Vehicle Licence Issuing Office locations, please visit https://www.services.gov.on.ca/locations/start.do and choose “Visit a Centre”.

Regarding a driver’s licence exchange for your husband, they are completed at DriveTest Exam Centres. Please visit the following website for detailed information on how to exchange a licence from a reciprocating jurisdiction: http://www.drivetest.ca/EN/licencing/Pages/Exchanging-a-Reciprocal-Licence.aspx

The DriveTest website also has information on locations and acceptable identity documents www.drivetest.ca.

I have mail forwarded from a private mailbox in the US every week. Delivery time varies from 4 days to 17 days, with higher end values during the holiday period. So, figure 2-3 weeks after DM.

I thought they sent the passport using USPS first class mail which takes 2-3 days for processing.

That's if you send them the first class envelope with the return address on it.

They gave me two choices:

- First Class Mail
- USPS Express Mail (with my pre-paid, pre-addressed mailer)

First Class mail can take up to a week inside the US, and longer internationally. USPS Express Mail should be one or two days.

Can my wife apply for a SIN as soon as she lands or does she have to wait for PR card?

All they need is her COPR and passport. Service Canada will then issue the permanent SIN and provide it to her on a printed sheet of paper. The SIN card then comes in 1-2 weeks, but the sheet of paper (stamped by Service Canada) is sufficient.
