I intend to land in Toronto and stay in Canada for one week and then back to US. I want to make full use of these 7 days and need advice on what should be the top action items like applying for PR card, applying for Canadian social security number etc. (I read somewhere that you need Canadian SSN to work in Canada)? can anybody plz advise? thanks a lot.

SIN number you mean? (Social Insurance Number). You can get it at a Service Canada Centre. I got mine in less than 15 min at the one located close to Yonge and St.Clair.

Del Piero. do you know if it is mandatory to have a Canadian address for delivery of PR card or can I give a US address ? Also - do I need to be physiclaly present at the time of PR card delivery and need to sing or can I give address of a hotel or friend and have then collect it? thanks.

AFAIK SIN cards aren't issued anymore, you only need your SIN number.
