Hello all,
We would be landing in Alberta coming weekend to complete our landing formalities. We are planning to provide Alberta address for the PRs..still hunting for some friend/relative; hopefully will find some.

Our ques: we are in the US currently and will be moving back to the US in two days after landing. Once we complete our landing formalities what happens to the PR status? Do we have to return to Canada to maintain our status? We read in some forum that we have to provide a permanent address in Canada in 6 mths. to maintain the PR status or else it will be void. Is this true? What can be done about this? Your help will be much appreciated. Thank you so much all of you and good luck.

To keep your PR status, you must stay in Canada at least 730 days (2 years or 24 months) in your first 5 years as a PR and in any rolling 5 year period after that.

If you can not provide an address to get your PR card mailed to you within 6 months of landing, you will lose your chance of your first free PR card and if you want one, you would have to come to Canada and apply for it, new photos and $50 application fee. Only the first free PR card is mailed to you to an address you have given. Subsequent PR cards must be picked up by you in person at a Canada immigration office in Canada.
