Hi there

I was wondering if someone could help me, im currently sorting out working a ski season in Canada. I found a company online 'the working holiday club' that have asked me for a deposit and then the rest of the money up front before having the interview. I'm worried that paying all this money then something going wrong. So not sure whether to stick with it or bank on getting a job at the job fair in June.

hope you can help!

NEVER pay a job placement company or recruiter money for their services. In Canada these services are no-fee based for the job seeker. If they ask for $$$, walk away - they are not a true placement company.

Also, if you ever speak with an agency or recruiter that says they can 'guarentee' you x number of interveiws, or contacts/networking, or guarantee to send your resume to x number of companies directly - WALK AWAY -- these are not legitimate firms and and they're praying on people who don't know how the Canadian system really works.

Always do your research and investiagate how the Canadian job market truly operates.

Hi CCC,

What do you recommend for people who are abroad applying work in Canada. What are the mindset of Canadian employers?

My experience is that they always ask if I am authorized to work in Canada. Once I told them I need sponsorship, they turn me down. :(

That's why you shouldn't call it sponsorship because it implies that the employer is somehow responsible for you. Instead tell them that you need a job offer to be able to apply for a work permit. If they start talking to you, maybe you can slowly reel them in because it is a bit of a hassle for the employer to apply for a labour market opinion and it is not guaranteed that they will get it.

It is still very hard to get a job offer from the outside. Some have applied for hundreds of jobs before they found an employer who possibly after some talking was game to do the paperwork. Others have been luckier and found it a bit easier.
