Got my passport yesterday so my Canadian citizenship journey is officially complete. Started with applying for Express Entry in May 2018, PR in October 2018 then citizenship application Jan 23, 2021. Oath taken Apr 20, 2022 and after a brief issue with an incorrectly dated certificate I applied for my passport on May 12th and received it May 31st.

Good luck to all those still plodding through the system :)

Hey everyone,

my status finally changed to "Decision made today". Here are my case's updates:

Background check: June 10, 2021
Citizenship test: March 10, 2022
Decision made: May 30, 2022
Oath ceremony: Not started yet
And yesterday, June 1st, I noticed that I', scheduled for Oath on June 9th. I haven't received any email yet.

I noticed that my info is in August 2020's sheet (because I originally submitted my application in August 2020, then my package returned, and I re-applied on January, 2021). I got my AOR on March 23, 2021. We are a family of two from Montreal.

So long story:

January 2021 applicant, received my citizenship test invite for January 18, 2022. I wrote the test, but during the test, the online application timed me out almost as soon as I started and I managed to log back in.

Test was completed and I got 20/20. Was excited as I thought that was it, 2 days from now I should get an update saying ‘citizenship test completed”, but I heard nothing for 3 months. This got me really worried and I contacted my MP, they told me that “the result of my test could not be accepted due to the integrity of the test”.

At this point, I was so deflated as no one from IRCC even reached out to me for months, until the end of May when I got an invite for an MS teams test for June 7, 2022.

The MS teams meeting was quite straightforward, the citizenship officer explained that they could not accept the result of my previous test due to the timeout issue and then administered a test to orally and confirmed my result instantly (20/20 again).

I opened my application this morning and saw the following update:

Application history
4 new update(s)

  • Jun 7, 2022
    Physical presence activity status updated
    Physical presence
    New update
Physical presence status has been updated to Completed

  • Jun 7, 2022
    Prohibitions activity status updated
    Prohibitions

Prohibitions status has been updated to Completed

  • Jun 7, 2022
    Language skills activity status updated
    Language skills

Language skills status has been updated to Completed

  • Jun 7, 2022
    Citizenship test activity status updated
    Citizenship test
    New update
Citizenship test status has been updated to Completed

Does this mean DM? Should I be expecting an oath invite soon?

TLDR - wrote the citizenship test and result was not accepted due to connection time out issues, but IRCC made me wait for 5 months to rewrite. All requirements completed except citizenship ceremony.

Thanks for the update! Great news on your citizenship oath tomorrow! Congrats! I have added you to the Jan 2021 spreadsheet.
Could you let me know what date you sent your application, and what date it was received by IRCC? Also, how many days of physical presence you had? Do you know what date your application was "in progress" in the ECAS system? Normally it's a few days before the background check... Finally, do you know what date you received your citizenship test invite? Just filling in all the blanks :)

Thanks, now we have the same timeline! Does your old ecas say “in process” or “decision made”?

That's what I was thinking/hoping will happen for you! I'm expecting you to get it this week or next! Although, based on the other DMs in Ottawa office, it sounds like we might still have many months to go to get scheduled for oath, that is unless all of those waiting for months, all get scheduled in the same oath!

Unfortunately, the accredited places are only in Canada. You'll need to do it when you are back in Canada. This was my reply from them when I asked:

Please see attached the list of Private Fingerprinting Company Locations Accredited by the RCMP.

Please note that only the company locations listed have been authorized to take fingerprints for civil purposes and submit them as electronic transactions for verification against the National Repository of Criminal Records.

Please note that there are no Private Fingerprinting Company Locations Accredited by the RCMP outside of Canada.
