Hi I am wondering if anyone else became a permanent resident and required an international health plan due to not meeting OHIP residency requirements and not wanting to have to get travel insurance every week. I will still work in the U.S. 10-12 days out of the month and feel overwhelmed with all of the garbage about health insurance on line. I do not think I will ever meet the requirement for OHIP which really concerns me.

Talk to OHIP and ask them if they can make an exception for your special situation. You would meet the requirements of staying in Ontario 5 months a year but not the initial one of staying 5 months in the first 6.

Thank you, I plan on giving them a call in the morning to see what my options will be. I still need a plan while I travel because I know Ohip will not cover me. I have heard they offer yearly plans for individules who work in the states but live in Canada. :)

You can get yourself a "multi-trip" annual plan, which costs less than $90 for a year and lets you travel as many times as you need within a year. It usually has a limit on the days but you have the option to select the number of days you plan to travel for. Send me a private message if you would like more information.
