Hey

I am living in Canada on a visitor visa at present, and sending off my app for PR this month. I have chosen to do Inland, but I was looking at the application time and the process is almost twice as long in months. Can you apply for Outland whilst living in Canada? Is it more efficient? I find this choice so confusing as there doesn't seem to be much information about comparing the two on the CIC website.

;(

Hello, and welcome :)

You CAN apply outland even if you are in Canada. The relative speeds depend on the visa office you would use outland - do you know which that is? Or, what is your nationality?

It would be through London, England which the processing time on their website is currently a lot less than Inland applications.

Another option for you is to apply out-land via Buffalo instead of your home country.

There are pros to this option even if the processing times are relatively similar. Firstly, if you are called to an interview it is (depending where in Canada you are) cheaper and quicker to get to Buffalo. I have heard that they do not give you much notice for your interview and long-haul flights are pricey on short notice!
Secondly, when Buffalo gets backlogged with applications they send some out to other Visa offices so the processing times supposedly will not increase too much. Whereas if your home country office gets swamped with applications they just increase the processing times.

I was informed of this option by an immigration consultant, and while I saw the plus side, I still chose to get my app processed in Australia and if I do get called for an interview (which is unlikely) then I just see it as an expensive but awesome chance to see my friends and family in New Zealand.

Either way, I still recommend out-land rather than in-land!!!

Go outland while staying in Canada!! Costs and inconvenience of flying to London can not be compared to being stuck in Canada for more than a year with almost no rights. I really regret applying Inland...

If they do call you for an interview back home does that mean both you & your sponsoring spouse would have to go, or just you the applicant??

Just the applicant. If the visa officer wants to talk to the sponsor, he/she will phone. They rarely bother.

Then go through London, England VO unless you have a very complicated situation / difficult to explain relationship that makes it likely that they will request an interview and the additional time for an inland application vs. cost to fly doesn't make it worth it to you and your partner.
