hi Guys,

I have to appear for oath in a week and already have plans to visit Indian in 2 months. Has anyone traveled to India on e-visa. does anyone knows the timeline for e-visa?

I see details regarding paper visa on bls website. and seems like for that I will have submit my indian passport first. but I don't see any such requirement for e-visa.

Hi,
Can we apply for entry visa without my Indian passport surrender certificate. I have surrendered Indian Passport just a day ago and the BLS team said that it takes 3-4 weeks to get the surrender certificate. I have a travel in 2 weeks and planning to stay beyond 6 months where entry visa application is suggested by BLS to convert it to OCI within India. It cannot be done by e-visa, but not sure if Entry visa can be applied without surrender certificate.

Your answer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Susan

Entry visa needs only your Canadian passport.

its illegal to apply india visa without surrender indian citizenship. here is link.

"Production of Surrender Certificate endorsement is essential while applying for Indian visa, PIO/OCI card or any other miscellaneous consular services. "

https://www.blsindia-canada.com/toronto-jurisdiction/surrender-of-india-citizenship.php

People will say there is no check, but when you will apply later OCI or surrender Indian Passport there is likely you will get questions, because when you will surrender or apply OCI they will ask for Canadian passport deails. Consulate can easily pull details.

Rest up to you :)

Hi, Thanks for your response. I have already surrendered my Indian passport. It's just that I have no time to wait for the surrender certificate to arrive and then apply for OCI or entry visa. There is death happened in my family but it is not considered as emergency because it's my grandmother not my immediate family.

Sorry for your lose. i am not sure from whom you are getting this info that that Grandparents are not immediate family.

Consulate General of India.
https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/page/emergency-visa/

In the cases of death of immediate family members (Parents, Grandparents and Siblings only), visa application should be submitted from 8.00 AM to 11.00 AM during weekdays and from 10.00 AM to 11.00 AM on Saturdays at BLS Centres at 1448 Lawrence Avenue E, Unit 6 A, Toronto ON M4A 2V6 and 60 Gillingham Drive, Unit 403, Brampton, ON, L6X 4X7

Tourist visa and entry visa is separate from e-visa. The former 2 requires surrender certificate but e-visa does not. Fee for e-visa is USD$80, application is completely online (not bls), you get it within 72 hours and only requires Canadian passport.

Oh thanks I see..

There is one more thing if you could help me. How do fill field given name field in e-visa application if I don’t have given name and it’s blank in my passport. I have only surname. It seems given name is mandatory field for the all visa types for India.
would appreciate your help if you know.
