Hey all

Just wondering if anyone knows if the "T4 statement of remuneration paid" is good enough to prove income?

I only one have notice of assessment available online even though I have filed for many years before that one. I only have the option C form available for one year and no others before it.

I don't have access to the paper NOAs.

I am trying to call CRA but it's hard with the time difference and being on hold for long.

Why do you need an NOA or Option C prior to 2016?

I don't know what kind of application you are submitting fo you may be correct, but common law for sure only needs most recent year (2016).

Yes, I'm applying for the outland common law visa. I'm looking for them because the application is asking for income history for the last 5 years. If I give only the most recent it will be for work outside of Canada and I'm not sure if that is what they want. I thought to include past assessments and current income to make up the 5 years. Am I right to do that?

As I said in your other thread, don't overthink everything. It doesn't matter if your work history is outside of Canada. You don't need to provide extra documents.

I am not supplying the past 5 years NOA/Option C for my partner (the sponsor). I am simply writing out the work history (dates/employer etc) and stating the amount made in that particular job/time period.

That makes sense, my only issue is that I don't know how much I've made in the past

Have you tried signed up to CRA online? All your tax info would be in one place. Even if it doesn't help in this situation it's a good tool to have on hand in future.

Doesn't matter if the work history isn't from Canada. My partner (Canadian citizen and my sponsor) has work history from US, UK, Canada.

Do you not have T4s (or country equivalent) for the jobs? Even if you just put down $10 per hour - 40 hours a week etc or $200 a day for 10 days. My partner does hockey camp coaching and that is how we have shown that.

I think the past 5 years work history isn't so much about the income..it's about what you've been doing. Hence why itslabelled employment history not income history. The income info/official docs that really matter are the orevious tax years (2016). Hence why the NOA or option c is pretty much a must for the latest tax year.

You will either need to suck up the time difference/on hold time or get as much info as you can and then write explanation of why its not all the info. Just a word of warning though..I don't think CIC will accept the reason of time difference and long wait on hold as a reason for not having that info!

The last time I filed was 2014, online it gives me option C to print out for 2014. Just unsure why the previous years I have filed aren't available to me. I can print out T4s but I'm worried about sending in documents that they don't want. I'm hoping T4s, that assessment from 2014 and a letter explaining will be enough.

Of course, I will call them but have to wait until mid next week when I have days off of work so I was hoping to get some info off of here in the meantime.

I know this might sound a little dumb but please hear me out:
Does anyone know if the gov approves your financial stability when you're sponsoring a non-Canadian family member if you show them you have lots of money in your bank account?
For instance, I work min wage and my bank statement indicates that, but I also deposit cash into my account every now and then from my other work (cash job). Is that a bad thing? Will the gov ask me where I get money to just deposit in my account?

I am not even sending my partners T4s for the 5 years previous employment info. I am simply putting it in the boxes provided/on continuation sheet as it doesnt all fit in the provided boxes on the form.

But do you have info on the income for the previous tax year (which is 2016) to submit with your application?

I am pretty certain they never ask for access to your bank accounts. Even if by some weird obscure chance they did..there is no way of knowing that that money is from a cash job... You could have won it at the casino, returned a s!*t ton of empty beer bottles, been given it by someone.

How come they don't ask for access to your bank account? Don't they want to see your pay stubs? Or if you mean you could take a photo of your statement and show it to them, in that case can you redact non-relevant transactions that don't have to do with your workplace? Just curious, thanks.

No unfortunately, I don't have 2016. The last time I worked and filed tax was 2014 so that is the only one I have. I will list my work history while I have been out of Canada and give tax return summaries for jobs but nothing tax official for years earlier than 2014.

I just hope it won't be an issue. I can list jobs and sort of estimate what I made based on my T4s but that's probably the most I can do that I know of at this point until I can call them.

What do you think?
