IN USA on H1 , with Masters degree from USA--> Express entry question

Hi all,

i sure this question may have been asked and answered , but when i searched not much came up.

I have been living in USA for 12 yrs ,1st as student , then on H1 and stuck on GC backlogs . I am planning to apply for PR via the express entry program and have a few questions.

1) do we have to take IELTS before submitting into Express entry? or can it be done once i get a ITA?
2) Me and wife both have MS from US universities , do we still need to go with education evaluations Via WES? or can it be wavied or the preliminary WES check came up as 2 yr Canadian degree can that be used?.

1) Yes, you have to take IELTS. You can calculate your score in CRS

2) You need to get your degree evaluated through a recognized institution - WES.

You may consider taking CELPIP instead of IELTS. I have done IELTS and my wife had done CELPIP, with the comparison, I felt CELPIP is easier to score in the CLB (benchmark level for language score).
Get degrees evaluated asap coz these might just be the factors holding up the application after ITA.
Also consider getting FBI checks done too.

I would recommend starting the evaluation process before anything else. I also have american degrees. WES requires transcripts to be mailed directly from the institutions, and since this is admission season in most american universities, I am sure it will take time for your university to furnish your request and send over the transcript to WES. So do that now, and do it for both yourself and your wife because you will get points for both that way.

And I second the suggestion to take the CELPIP exam. Just did two practice tests and was good to go. Typing your writing test instead of hand writing it makes all the difference to me.

It isn't too bad unless you're born in India - if you're you're screwed. It's unfair, but it's the way it is unfortunately.

Slight correction:
CELPIP - General Test (for permanent resident status in Canada)
CELPIP - General LS Test (for Canadian citizenship)

Express Entry is a stream for permanent residence, so you need to select the test that is used for permanent resident status in Canada (the CELPIP General Test).
