Hi guys,

So long story short my eapr is march 2017, nothing has changed yet. But today I realized that my son's birth certificate may be wrong since I sent an extract of some sort and not the official birth certificate. What can I do?

Is it possible to send a CSE? Do I wait for rejection? Has this happened before where someone realized a mistake and corrected it by sending another document? Thanks.

Submit the correct document and request it to be added to your file. Briefly explain your mistake.

Thank you. I hope it will work and the problem is that I need some time to get it.

Do you (or anyone else) know if a birth certificate extract is accepted for my son? This extract is extracted from the municipality where he was born, but since he is a citizen of another country (like me) an official birth certificate will have to be taken from the official country.

If an original birth certificate was not issued, the extract should suffice. However, if you can get an official one, submitting it later shouldn't be a problem.

I hope, you did include a letter of explanation or something about this extract with your application. If not, you can submit a CSE explaining this and stating that you'll be providing the original birth certificate once issued/available.

A birth certificate/an equivalent alternate has to be issued from the country of birth.

Upload it through CSE https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Only thing is it takes time to get to them. 2-6 weeks. Maybe this one you provided will be sufficient.

Thank you very much for your explanation. However few notes i need to add:

1- The country of Birth cannot provide anything other than what i have provided which is called extract of birth certificate-name giving

2- Birth certificate has to be done in the country of citizenship, which i will be starting with tomorrow

3- in the link you have provided it says:
The document must be one of the following:
birth certificate;
equivalent document from the birth country; or
letter of explanation (where no birth certificate is available in the country).

The "or" here is interesting, isn't the extract "equivalent document from the birth country"? And doesn't this statement mean that birth certificate in item 1 doesn't need to be from the birth country or else they would have mentioned it?

4- when i open the "view submitted application" i see the following item : Birth Registration/Certificate (required) and in the instructions when i press the "i" it says: "Provide a birth certificate, or birth registration. This is the official document that includes a person's name, and place and date of birth".

The extract i uploaded is extracted from the registration authority in town hall.

I am just trying to formulate an answer for the CSE. I prefer getting the birth certificate before sending a CSE what do you think?

PS: I didnt mention anything in the letter of explanation, since at that point in time i thought the extract was the actual birth certificate.

You don't have to provide anything else. In this case, the extract you've already provided is enough.

In some countries, that registration extract is considered equivalent to a birth certificate.

I don't think it would be an issue. However, if you think you need to clarify your situation, simply state that you submitted whatever record/document you had, and that, there was no other document [proper birth certificate] issued for your child at that time.

Honestly, as it has been issued from the municipality, they definitely cannot figure out anything as long as it has your and your wife's name, your child name, birth date and mentions that it is a birth document. They will assume that it is equivalent for birth certificate. You could submit more if you think there is something in the document that tells them that it isn't a birth record.

Thank you all for replies. I feel better. I will still order the birth certificate and send it in a CSE, and maybe mentioning that i got worried the extract wasn't enough. (unless this causes issues? :D)
