How to make an upfront medical exam?

Hi,

There's something very confusing about the medical exam. On the CIC website, they say you can make an upfront medical exam (we prefer do it now and not have any delays later).

But when we called at the Chiang Mai hospital (Thailand) to ask for the procedure, they told us we need a CIC Id number to get the exam.

How can we get an Id if we didn't send the application yet? Isn't the very idea of an UPFRONT medical exam?

Thanks for clarifying it for me if you can.

But did you told them that you're going for the upfront medical exam as you are just about to submit your application?
The same question was asked to me by the clinic and I just told them that I am doing the up front medical. And they gave me a e-medical form as a proof for medical which I included in our application.

I called the clinic and asked for a follow up on the status of the medicals and they sent it already to Canadian Embassy (Manila Visa Office)after 2 weeks from the date that I had my medicals with them. Now my status update on Ecas says that they already received my medicals.

Hope this helps. :)

I think they do this everywhere in the world :D I don't know if they are used to the economical immigration and get few sponsorship requesters or what, but they always ask for the UCI or immigration file number or ID :D

You just have to tell them you are being sponsored and need an up-front medical exam.

At the end of the medical exam, they will give you a report to put in the file, containing the barcode and the UMI (Unique Medical Identifier) of your medical file.

Hi Betina - Upfront Medical Exam is no more choice. All designated doctors would be requiring file number as they have to upload your medical reports on CIC specific portal.
Although I believe that option for Sponsor case is still open but hospitals all over the world start with the same reply.
You need to further explain them

mrsalvaro, talking about upfront medical exam, how do I know and check if the Embassy received the result already? I called the doctor already and she said that they forwarded it already at the Embassy...how did you know that the Embassy received your result already?

We are talking here exclusively about Family Sponsorship, and in this case it's mandatory that you have the medical exam before you send your file to CIC. That is called an "upfront medical examination from the Panel Physician". You don't have any UCI, IME or file number to give them. The panel physician gives you, at the end of the examination, a Report that has a barcode and the UMI and you include that in the file you send to Mississauga. That barcode and that UMI are also used in the CIC specific portal.

I did my upfront medical exam last month, so it is still a choice. It's the Family Sponsorship section here.

Betina, your advice (quoted) is wrong. It is not mandatory to take an upfront examination if your are a family class applicant. Such an applicant has a choice either to take the medical upfront or like everyone else to wait for CIC's instructions. Read the announcement! The link, for the umpteenth time, is http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-perm.asp

Yeah, that "mandatory" is not accurate, my bad.

All I was trying to say that there still is the choice for an upfront exam, after mrsalvaro said otherwise.

with the processing times growing each time I think that waiting for the embassy to ask for the medicals is the smarter way to go - so that they don't lose their validity. now I wish I would have chosen the same alternative :(

Thanks you all for your answers.

I understand that I should be able to make this upfront med exam, but I need to explain them more at the hospital (we tried already to explain, the nurse we talked kept saying we need a CIC request...).

But I also understand that it may be better waiting for the request? The processing time in Singapore is very long, so the med certificate will most probably expire before we get the visa. Is it better too wait then? Or it may delays the process? How long is the med certificate valid?

Thanks.

Medical validity is good for 1 year only..I guess in your situation and based on your VO processing time as what you said is very long, better to wait for the request so you dont have to waste time and money and to avoid doing the medical again..that's my opinion only :)
