Hi Everyone,

Like many of us here I've also been trying to immigrate to Canada for the past few years. I created my Express Entry profile in May 2016 but have been inactive primarily because of my points being bad (417). Here is a summary of my credentials.

Age: 28
Marital Status: Never Married
Country of Origin: Pakistan
Education: Equivalent to Canadian Master's Degree (WES Certified)
IELTS: L 7.5 - R 8.0 - W 7.0 - S 8.0 (7.5 Overall)
Work Experience: Almost 5 years (All outside Canada and working for startups and online businesses under designations)

When I made my EE profile, I chose my occupation as 0214 that includes e-business managers (I believe that's the NOC I should apply under)

Would appreciate if you can help me in figuring out how to increase my points so that I get closer to getting an ITA.

  • Does the NOC have an effect being allotted points for experience?
  • What are the easiest options for me to increase my points? I am thinking of retaking IELTS if that can increase my score drastically. Do you think that's the best way to go about it?
  • Are there any other ways in which I can increase my score close to 475-485 mark without a valid job offer or PNP?

Would appreciate your help greatly. Want to focus hard and get it done asap. TIA.

Best,
Chaudri

Thanks, can you kindly elaborate how would a better score increase the points. Is there a minimum score I should target individually or an overall band I should look for. Lets say how much would an overall 8 or 8.5 affect my points?

If I retook IELTS and ended up scoring lower than my previous attempt; can I still apply using my old test results?
Yes as long as the previous results have not expired.

It's not the overall score. Individual scores in each section matter. You need to be at least CLB level 9 in each section to score good enough points. You can check the language test score equivalency chart on cic website.

Thanks, just checked that. I guess I need to work on the 2 sections I didn't score enough in and hope the other two remain the same. Will jump me up to 478 :)
