I had the same issue with writing I am so slow and usually I don't finish. My first attempt was Academic IELTS and writing was 5.5 then my second was General IELTS and writing was 6 or 6.5. What I did in my third attempt is that I started with task #2 first because it is longer and has 2/3 of the final mark of the writing section. that helped a lot and I got 7 and my score jumped from 368 to 431. just change your technique and good luck

There are only 7 possible essay questions blueprints (agree/disagree, reasons etc. ) IELTS section 2. You should use four paragraph technique to write essays. There should be an introduction, main idea 1, main idea 2 and conclusion. For introduction, you need to write a thesis statement by paraphrasing the question and give a hypothesis (answer) to the problem. The word count should never be lesser than what has been asked. They will cut redundant words. So for 250 word essay, 350 should be good to avoid any penalties. you cannot score high if you don't follow these things even if you have good writing skills.

all what I said is available in this site:

ieltsliz.com

I suggest you to watch IELTS Liz videos (ieltsliz.com) on this. You could even go for her paid videos instead of going to a tutor. She knows exact techniques to crack the exam. I just followed what she showed in her free videos and was manage to get 8 in writing and my spouse managed 8.5 following the same. Since you need more guidance, you could opt for paid lessons.

Similarly, you should follow specific format, salutations etc. for letter writing too.

Avoid simple sentences. Longer complex sentences are good, but use only if you are comfortable with them.

Good luck!

She also has videos on writing tips. I also appeared for 3 times and last time I prepared all the topics from her website and that helped me a lot in getting my desired score. My crs was 397 and it jumped to 456. Hope this helps. Good luck

I had the exact same experience..I took IELTS 3 times during 3 years and got 6.5 in writing every time...and my other ones jumped up sharply like reading from 7.5 to 9....and listening up to 8.5...but I could hardly do anything with my bad writing :(

Ironically, I even took CELPIP once...the reading&speaking results were horrible compared to the IELTS ones. The writing still fell into the range equivalent to IELTS 6.5 :'(

ieltsliz is a good site btw.

good luck and have fun.
