How to enter Canada from Buffalo, USA with COPR document?

Hello Seniors,

I did my landing and awaiting my PR card. Like everyone, I only have my COPR. My question is, how should i enter Canada using my COPR?

I know I cant fly or take a greyhound bus as its considered as a commercial. Can i enter canada with a rental car?

I will be entering Canada from peace bridge fort erie, buffalo. Can anyone please advise?

Thanks for your reply.

Ofcourse i will take my passport. My main question is if a rental car is considered as a commercial vehicle or not. Because if it is, then i need to apply a travel document which doesn't suit my situation as i am just going for a weekend and I will have to apply the TD from US and it takes 6-10 working days.

If it's not then I can rent a car and enter canada with my passport and my COPR. So just seeing if anyone has done that or has any experience on this.

A rental car is NOT a commercial vehicle. A commercial vehicle is like a bus or a taxi, something that an operator drives and where you would be the passenger.

If you rent a car with Ontario plates, the question of who the car belongs to likely won't even come up. If they do ask, you would tell them the truth and say it's a rented car. There shouldn't be a problem with that.

A CoPR (with your passport) is enough to get back through the Peace Bridge. Did this over Easter and had no issues whatsoever with the Canadian border - they just briefly looked at it, asked where we were headed (home, of course) and waved us on.

This is Sameer from centennial college. I did my landing last month. You can take grayhound bus from dundas station (I TOOK 9:30AM BUS) and go to Niagara fall bus stop (its last stop of grayhound bus at Niagara)and from there its only 30 min walk to us border. Once you reach there while going out of Canada you have to give 50 cent toll tax and go towards USA border by crossing bridge (WHERE YOU CAN ASK FOR ADMINISTRATIVE REFUSAL LETTER) and then come back to canada border.

Hey Matt: Thanks for your response. That's what I was looking for. I am going to rent it from here and drive up to NY. I actually spoke to one the Immigration officer at Peace bridge and he said that the COPR doc is accepted with the rented car.
