We are about to fill taxes in January 2024, there is a question about taxes for the year 2023
"Tax year 2023
Did you file taxes for this year?"

Tax season will open in February 2024. So as per my understanding, the answer should be (following is copied from the application)
Tax year 2023
Did you file taxes for this year?

No
Were you required to file taxes for this year?
If you are not sure, you can confirm if you had to file your tax this year(opens in new tab).
Yes

Can anyone confirm if this is correct?

I think this question is applicable to all applicants who are going to fill the citizenship application in January and February (or already submitted their application in Jan and February)

I answered it as No; Yes. In the last section, I attached a simple word doc stating that I haven't received T4 and hence haven't filed returns yet. I will file it once I get T4. Hope that helps

Hello everyone! I just submitted my application as well a minute ago and was looking for the same answer. I have answered No and Yes as suggested and as it makes sense.

Best of luck to everyone!

IRCC officers know when T4 are sent and when people file their tax.
No need to explain what they're familiar with because they themselves do it every year.

No LOE needed, you just say No to not filed and Yes to required to file, As your application is processed this information can be verified at time when you file taxes and just make sure you file on timely manner

I guess answering the tax season of 2023 as no will not be problem as long as we have at least 3 years of tax return during the 5 years eligibility period.

Hey All, I and my wife have completed my 1095 of physical presence and I am planning to apply for citizenship on Feb 1st, but we have filed in my 2 years of taxes only, should we need to wait until we file my 3rd tax return for submitting citizenship application or can we apply on Feb 1st with only 2 tax filings?

Timeline:
Got COPR in March 2019
Soft landing and PR card in May 2019
Permanently Moved to Canada on Jan 4th, 2021
Filed Taxes for 2021 and 2022

It's never too late to file tax for 2019 and 2020.

It's never too late to file tax for 2019 and 2020.
Is 3 years taxes mandatory, my wife was on visitor visa for 5 months in Canada, went back in September 2019 and returned jan 2021, so she was not supposed to fill taxes for 2019 & 2020. She only filed taxes for 2021 & 2022, for 2023 she will file in the coming tax season but in all she has only files taxes for 2 years till now
