My wife just received this passport request. Here is the section for passport requirements. Given that she holds a HK SAR passport it appears that she is only required to submit a photocopy of her passport.

BTW anyone knows how long it should take for her to receive her landing papers. I am planning a trip to HK at the end of May. I assume she should have her landing papers by then so we can return to Canada together? :D

If you are a citizen of a country that is required to obtain a visa to visit Canada, please follow the instructions below regarding your passport requirements:

• Each passport must contain at least two blank visa pages and must be valid for at least six months.
• Please note that permanent resident visas cannot be placed in Diplomatic, Official or Military passports.

NOTE: Original passports from The People’s Republic of China and The Philippines must be submitted to this office.

Ian,

Yes, so glad majority of HK app progressing quite well. We go Canada very often as our second daughter is studying elementary there since some years ago. My husband decides the whole family returning to Cdn this summer. We booked air-tickets 6 months ago before submit my app. I booked a single ticket for them but I got a return ticket. We also apply the elementary school for our girls coming Sep.

One more thing that I must share with you. I talked to my Canadian accountant today for filing my Canada tax return. He reminds me that to prepare form B4 in detail. The goods to follow are incl. all household stuffs and valuable goods. We must declare all our properties in HK/ other country value over CAD 100,000 such as : Housing, stock/funds(MPF), money in bank, shares in business, membership in timeshare/club.......etc., It is better to find a company estimated its value around the time period of our landing date.
--> I thought that form B4 is only for household products and accompany goods.

We should have to discuss how to fill the form B4 of goods to follow and accompany lists. :)
Hi Mumof3...
For all of the property of applicant when will need to declare to the Canada Gov't?

When you became a resident for tax purposes, you would need to file your tax return and report your foreign properties.

I've sent our application to CIC in March, they got it on March 5th this year, I hope they will speed up the processing time this month so our file will be transfer to HKVO before May!

I've also heard that about two weeks ago Beijin VO transferred many cases to HKVO, not sure if that will slow down the processing time at HKVO or not......, most of them haven't heard a thing after their files were transferred :(

Hi, Mumof3,

Steaky saying is absolutely correct. That is what I heard so far that we don't need to do anything about assets like properties, stocks , MPF , bonds , fixed deposit in HK and etc... and need to declare after landing to CDN after 1 years for filling tax return for any incomes generated for these assets. for property, we need to find the
official surveyor firm to estimate the market value at that time ( landing date ) so it can compare the gain/loss
for tax purpose in Canada (fiscal year) while selling ( let's saying 1 or 2 years later). for detail, need ask your CDN accountant to explain it. for ease of transferring your cash money between HK and Canada (HKD / CDN/USD), did you open the Premier in HSBC - Global account so that no charge to transfer cash in second anytime.

Keep on sharing the experience each other to make the thing smooth and understanding before landing.

Thanks for clarify of assets declaration. I must check it out with my CAD accountant ASAP. So busy this period many things on my hands.

For the banking issue, I opened CIBC many years ago in CAD and TD bank for my mortgage. I just closed my Premier HSBC AC but keep HangSengBank and China bank in HK. I found that HSBC has the worst TT exchange rate and also for oversea credit card transcation.

I would share high interest saving AC in TD bank/min. balance CAD 25K. Just an example : For the balance CAD 40K, monthly interest gain CAD 40.00. (Around 1.05%)

Thanks again Steaky and Ian.

Hi Mumof3 ,
I have the same situation with you as family of 4 and just got the SA yesterday and waiting for AOR2 from HKVO. i m very concerned that which frieght forwarding company is the best suit for us. do u have any reference and how much is cost for it so i can compare ? did you get the quotation yet ? and i believe that you may get the COPR earlier than me ( 1 month ) as my document is received mid of Dec......... 3 weeks later than you.

please advise..
Updated my frieght forwarding issue :

Best offer : 20' cargo from HK to Vancouver = HKD 19500 (around 32 CBM) + plus pick up HKD 3000 (Depends goods volume) , It is not included the cargo unload and mover fee in Canada side.

Unload cargo in Vancouver : TBA
* The broker in Canada informed me there is no trucker keen on my order, due to my house in a small village permit is required to have truck park on the driveway or side road.
* No 40' cargo will be used (even though price is only HKD 24500)
* I keep looking for a new broker listen from them.
