Anyone know how long it normally takes in HK from the time you send your passport in to the embassy in central, til you get your VISA? they have had my passport now for a week, bit annoying since i normally travel to china on the weekends, so kinda locked now in HK...

Would only think they would request the passport to glue the VISA in there right only when everything is ready?

hmm, doubt that, doesn't make sense if they ask for the passport if not everything is ready, i mean they already had the copy from before so if they needed to check anything.

Suggestion:

Do you remember when you sent your passport, you attached a DHL waybill? That waybill have the address written by you and a tracking no. You can track you mail by that. Did you make a copy of that way bill? So you dont have to stuck in HK. I sent my waybill and passport in 12 Aug and received my passport 18 Nov. Its like 3 months.

yes it was on the 18th November actually to be exact, so about 9 days now. Looked through the signature of people on this thread, and it seems that it takes 2-4 weeks to get the VISA after the passport request is issued, so hopefully any day now. I find it weird though that the application status website is so slow in updating, latest event if i login to check status is "We received your application for permanent residence on October 4, 2013"

Didn't to the waybill thing? what is that? i actually went to the consulate in HK, and just gave the pack to them directly with passport, police reports etc.

Hi, for the HK Visa office, in my case, it took them only five days to issue the VISA, and 18 days from VO receiving my passport to me getting it from the post office in guangzhou.

Here is my detailed timeline after the passport request for your reference,

passport requested - Oct 16 2013
sent the passport out - Oct 18
online status changed to "in progress" - Oct 20
passport received by HKVO - Oct 21
(issuance date on the visa - Oct 25)
online status updated to decision made - Oct 27
passport and CoPR mailed out from the visa office (from the stamp on the envelope) - Nov 1
pick up passport in guangzhou post office - Nov 7

you will be getting your passport soon. The VISA office did not request a prepaid return envelop, and the passport was mailed through registered mail, which took so long, very slow service.

Normally, you will see status updated to "DM" before getting your passport.

Hi, thanks for your reply! your timeline does make perfect sense! i mean, why on earth would they even request passport of everything isn't ready. Good that you could follow the progress online, in my case the person handling the E-updates is probably on vacation. The latest update i have online is that they received my PR application. In fact, my case was sent from Canada to the local embassy here for processing before the status was even updated online for my wife/sponsor....

Hoping to get that VISA COPR and passport back as soon as possible!

apparently my PR VISA is now pending the Hong Kong police check, i got an email a few weeks ago from CIC saying all is ready, and that they needed my passport. HK police need that request letter (which i gave them) the same day as i got it. I have been calling the HK police here, its been 2+ weeks now, and its still not under "processing" anyone know any ideas/tips on how to get them to process my background check asap?

When I did the police check in hongkong, the staff told me , the report will sent to CIC directly within 4 weeks - 6 weeks.
So long ~~

yeah i know, its unlike Hong Kong to be slow like that.... everything is usually fast here. Didn't make sense in the first place that i had to show them the letter from CIC requesting the certificate before they could issue it either. I requested my letter on Nov 15th, and been calling them for the last few days to speed it up. Today i got a call back, saying they will process today and send to embassy directly.

We called Hong Kong Police for security clearance before submit the application. They said they won't do it until VO sent us the request! and they said it will take more than a month to get the clearance done, well I guess all the civil servants are acting the same attitude even it's in Hong Kong~~~~
