Hello everyone,

This will be my first post/thread/question in this group so let me give you some background info before I ask the question.

I came to Canada as an international student and applied for a PR through my husband on Sep 12, 2018 and became a PR on June 6, 2019. However, my international student status expired during the process on Nov 3, 2018 and I became out of status while I was waiting for the PR application approval.

So what I am trying to figure out is: What status was I under between Nov 4, 2018 and June 5, 2019 if I didn't leave Canada during the period? Some people may say "implied status" but implied status of what exactly.

On the Physical Presence Calculator, there is a field I have to choose the status I had between the mentioned dates, and it only gives me the following 5 types of choices:
  1. Visitor - my visitors visa was expired and I didn't get it extended during the process
  2. International Student - also the permit was expired and I applied for PR (different type of immigration so I don't think it can be called implied status)
  3. Temporary Worker - nope
  4. Temporary Resident Permit Holder - not sure
  5. Protected Person - nope again.
So I am not sure which one to choose and the last thing I want to do is jeopardizing my citizenship application with such a simple error. Please shed some lights here.
Thanks a lot :)

Depends if you applied for a work permit with it. If you did, then you would have an implied status, if you didn't, then you were out of status and can't count those days.

I did apply for a work permit at the same time I applied for a PR but it somehow was transferred to a secondary office and didn't get processed in time so I ended up cancelling it after becoming a PR as I received my permanent SIN with it that allows me to work.
I guess I'll just leave a gap as in International Student from May 6, 2014 to Nov 3, 2018, and then PR from June 6, 2019 with a 214 day absence from Canada in between even though I was physically still here. This will still give me more than 365 full day credit so it doesn't affect my eligibility.
The thing that still confuses me is that IRCC knows that I was still here in Canada during that period and I wonder if it will raise a question resulting a delay with the application process. Hmm..... Still not sure

I ended up submitting an inquiry through IRCC Webform yesterday in hopes to get a written reply instead of calling and being on hold for hours.
Anyone have anything else in mind or had a similar problem?

*bump*

Still no reply from IRCC but the fun fact atm is my address history on the application says I was in Canada for the duration but my physical presence calculator doesn't. I wonder if I could submit it as is  and do not get questioned or flagged especially considering the 183 days police certificate requirement since it was 214 days - the last thing I want - delay upon delay :D
