Hi guys

I learnt that since November 2016, LMIA-exempt job can also be considered as valid job offer for additional points (50-200) in the Express Entry system.

Now that I have worked for almost a year in a Canadian University as a Postdoctoral Fellow (closed Work Permit) and it is time now to renew my contract. My supervisor promised a renewal, but for one year. According to https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/documents/offer-employment.html, additional point (for LMIA-exempt job offer) requires at least 1 year contract after getting permanent residency. Therefore, my understanding is that I should ask my supervisor for a two year contract (my CRS score is not low, getting another 50 points basically guarantees successful ITA). I fulfill other requirements: i) having been working for that employer for already one year, ii) I hold a closed Work Permit (not PGWP).

However, my question is: on the same link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/documents/offer-employment.html. The official web says "not on a contract basis". But Postdoctoral job is always contract-based. I have looked into many websites, but none of them mentioned that the job cannot be contract-based.

I am confused. I must know the situation clearly before asking my supervisor for a two year contract, because working further one year as a Postdoctoral actually is not a nice thing to do.

Thanks

Hello,

I have the same problem right now. Could you manage to get the job-offer points? Please let me know if you found any solution.
