Gifting money from mother to daughter from overseas

Wanted to know if my wife's mother who lives in the UK, transfers ('gifts') money to my wife's bank in Canada, will my wife have to declare the funds as income in her taxes?

No, unless the person giving the gift is an employer, or the gift is in the form of real estate or investments.
