Getting a car on international license in Alberta

Okie... I'm landing in late November and i understand that the PR card will take more than 2 months to come. I'm currently holding on to a Singapore license which I am required to go for a class 5 road testing. In the meantime, can I use my international license for the time being and get a car and drive around first before I go for the driving test.

1. What are the required documents for purchasing a used car from someone in kijiji
2. Do landed PRs pay higher car insurance than locals
3. How long can I used the international driving license for ? Say if it's for 3months, can I get it renewed once I leave the border?
4. How long must I wait from time of booking to time of testing?

You can use your Singapore licence for a limited period of time after you arrive you will have to switch it. I think it is 90 days but don't quote me on it.
Pr's don't pay higher insurance but newly insured drivers do pay higher insurance. You will be in this category because Alberta doesn't accept proof of insurance from Singapore.
No your can't renew your IDP at the boarder.

You will need a valid driving licence, proof of address (a bill or mail received in your name, etc.), car insurance & purchase papers for the registration.

2. Do landed PRs pay higher car insurance than locals

New drivers (all) pay higher premium. If you have your insurance record from your current insurance company it may help in reducing the cost (it will not hurt)

3. How long can I used the international driving license for ? Say if it's for 3months, can I get it renewed once I leave the border?

I think the International licence is usable for 2 months (not sure) but once you start your licencing process i.e. sit the written exam, and get into the DMV system your International Licence is no longer valid.

4. How long must I wait from time of booking to time of testing?

If you are lucky to bump into a experienced driving instructor you can get your driving licence faster. I was in Mississauga and was able to get my G-Licence in three weeks (over Christmas). The driving instructor's name is Davinder Khangura C: 416.722.6614 P: 905.821.7072
