Chin up and Cheer up folks! Someone got a response from their MP that IRCC is supposedly returning to full capacity from October 26. If it is true, then it is likely we will see world-wide draws in first week of jan if not earlier.

Their application was delayed like hell so they raised an email to their MP.

Toronto is pricey and housing costs seem over the top. Calgary isn't as big of a city but it looks cheaper and there's Banff just right nearby over an hour drive away. I'd probably end up in Alberta/Calgary since most of my jobs as a chemist/chemical engineer are there. It does have its kind of backwards social reputation but then I've lived most of my US years in Mississippi so there's that.
Calgary has 1.3 million people. Its more than Vancouver. Its not a small city by any reckoning.

Is Calgary really good for chemist? Honestly I’ve been wanting to go to Calgary but always thought it’s more difficult to find work there. So I was just going to play it safe and go somewhere in Ontario. Chemical engineer/chemists honestly don’t seem to be in demand anywhere in Canada from what I tried finding lol.

October 26th is when Trudeau will swear in the new cabinet. It just seems like they mean IRCC will have its leadership back and not when they will actually work.

Alberta is basically the Texas of Canada for all practical purposes. It has a really strong oil and gas industry and so I have been seeing jobs in that sector. Having said that, a lot of these seem to require more digging than just typical job search sites. They like to hire through contacts and references based on the what I have been finding. Upping my linkedin game has helped a bit. Ontario has a LOT of jobs especially in Pharma and biochem. They require years of experience for the good research positions though. The territories have jobs in the mining sector but there is a limit to how much I am willing to freeze and pay 20 bucks for milk while hanging out with cute polar bears lol

Have a few years of experience in IT related fields (possibly some other non IT fields included in BCPNP) and apply on linkedin or via headhunting agencies. Not that hard if you're comp sci with 2-3 years of exp.
Thanks for the response. So, contrary to popular belief it is possible to get jobs from outside of Canada! That's good to know.

I had taken a very long break from this forum to work on my masters and boost my CRS. Safe to say, I’ve successfully achieved that goal. I’ve been a silent spectator on this forum for the past week, but now’s the time to get back in the game. This post sorta lifted my spirits; praying IRCC conducts all program specific draws soon. Wishful thinking I guess.

I've been applying for the past 6 months or so and I had very little luck. Got some interviews and they straight up told me to apply again to the next open positions once I have PR. Their problem is I can't control PR these delays and promise them a starting date that's suitable for them. They also don't want to deal with IRCC and get a work visa for anyone without PR since the kind of jobs I apply for need someone for the longer haul. Why would they need to take the effort anyway when there is a system that promises to get workers in permanently in "6 months".

These delays counter the very goal of bringing in workers who can quickly get to work and contribute to the economy. Now due to these delays, lesser people will enter canada with jobs and the job market will be super competitive once the outland floodgates finally open. I just hope I don't have to drive an uber or some shit like that for too long to make money once I land
It is what it is. There is nothing we can do. While I tell you not to apply for jobs, my other person inside me keeps applying for jobs knowing that it won't go anywhere. Fking irritating.

Even with a PR you won't "quickly get to work" in Canada. Go look that up; it'll most likely take you 6-12 months AFTER PR to find a somewhat decent job. You know this is perhaps the biggest lie in the whole Canadian skilled immigration thing. Canada does NOT need skilled professionals (not as many as they accept), but makes it look like it to turn the wheels of its economy.
The struggle is real for people from outside Canada and US. If someone from the US cannot find a job within 2 months, I'd say the person is dumb. For others, there will be a struggle because they need some time to adapt to the hiring process. For folks in India, they need to drop their personal biography in a resume. My countrymen feel proud putting their blood group, fathers name, mothers name, languages they speak, a declaration with signature, and some worst candidates paste their picture. The one-page resume works here. Many don't know what to put in their cover letter. Simple tip. Put information that's not in your resume. Folks waiting for a PR should start tweaking their resumes if they are not in North American formal instead of applying for jobs now. Now don't ask what's the format. Fking GOOGLE.

True. That's how pathetic Canada's job market is in STEM. Canada's STEM job market = IT/compsci jobs in Ontario. One particular profession in one particular province. BC has some IT/compsci jobs too. The rest of STEM (which would probably be about 95% if you deduce IT) will encounter what I mentioned; well except construction, mining, oil & gas, energy fellas.

Now I believe you peeps have enough brain cells to not go "oh I found a job in Canada so Canada has a great job market!".
The same is true for the US. Few takers for STEM jobs here. Immigrants have occupied an insane amount of STEM jobs here while American youth have taken up careers in Youtube, Insta, TikTok, PornHub, History, and Music.

But Vancouver Metro's population is twice the population of Calgary Metro's.
