FSW 2014 - MASTER THREAD - 2171/ 2172/ 2173/ 2174 SERIES

Guys & Girls, This thread is exclusively for the IT people applying under 217 series. Lets clarify all our doubts here over the course of next 1 week.

Hi all seniors,

Can somebody please clarify the main differences between 2171, 2173 and 2174. There seems to be a lot of overalap across these three areas. 2172 is very clear as only database administration related roles can apply.

Would be very helpful if seniors can tell what code one should apply under for the following roles below

1) Programmers with a focus on Operating Systems programming using C/ C++
2) Programmers using Java and other such languages to develop applications
3) Programmers working with IT companies such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro in India
4) SAP ABAP programmers without any focus on any specific modules in SAP
5) SAP ABAP programmers with specific focus on one module. Example: SD, FI, CO etc
6) SAP Functional consultants with a focus on one or two modules
7) SAP Techno-functional consultants who do both technical and functional in SAP
8) Mainframe application developers
9) Testing

Pls also mention if i missed any roles above.

I had applied under NOC 2174 last year in June but my package was returned because Cap was already reached. I feel my experience is more relevant to NOC 2173. Can I apply for NOC 2173 this year? or Should I apply under NOC 2174 again?

Please suggest.

This is big confusion with the people in Software / IT industry , same is my situation, :.
I believe it would be hard to judge ,
1st because 2174 is Computer Programmer as well as Interactive media developer,
which includes two category itself

2nd NOC 2173 is Software Engineer as well as software designer which consist of two category again.

I have few queries. I have 7 years of experience

• 1st Company 5.5 years :- Software Developer

• 2nd /Current Company: 1.5 years : Test Lead

1) Under which NOC can i apply? Which NOC does my 1st experience suit and Which one for the 2nd? Which one would be better to apply for?
2) Are the reference letters needed from both the companies or only the current company?
3) Can you please share the official checklist for FSW 2014
4) When can i submit PCC? Should it be right away or later?
5) When should i start maintaining balance in my account from and how much is needed to be maintained (2 people)?

I do [2] above, and when questioned in interview they were happy that I am 2174.
Personally I think [1] and [8] are also 2174.

In fact, if most of your day is spent writing code then you are probably 2174.

If you spend most of your time figuring our how software could solve somebody's problems, think 2171. If you draw lots of UML diagrams but don't do much coding, I guess you might consider 2173.

You list a lot of testing - so depending on the details of the job specs it looks like some of your roles may be NOC 2283 (see also 2282)

Check 2281 as well (which is in the NOC list for 2014)

but 2283 and 2282 is not part of the NOC for 2014.

True. The best thing you can do is to take a close look at the roles you have done and see if any of them fit NOC 2281 or the 217x series. You might only need one year of experience in the right NOC to qualify, so if your latest role was a close enough fit for 2172 (for example) then you might be OK.

Whatever you do, make sure you specify a NOC that fits the Job Descriptions you submit, because they will examine this closely - it was the cause of quite a few rejections in 2013.
(And obviously be honest - I'm sure you would anyway, but to make clear for anyone considering some massaging of the job specs.... some VOs call/visit employers, and some hold interviews.)
