found work, what next? info on work permit pls!!

Hi, first time on this forum for a friend who is in dear need of help. please, if anyone knows any info, let me know.

My friend in Jamaica has been hired by a local Canadian farm. He received a positive LMO and his work contract with the farm. The person at the immigration office gave us the name of our Jamaican Liaison here in Canada, the one closest to where the worker will be (atlantic canada). The person at the Jamaican Liaison has been going back and forth with him and his employer saying he isn't sure he can go ahead and help him get his visa as the farm hired him directly and didn't ask him at the Liaison office to choose. Although he hasn't said he couldn't yet, it's been well over a month now that this liaison office and the employer goes back and forth. At one point he said that he will help and got them to fax the LMO and Contract (before Christmas) and after Christmas he was back to his old tune of "i'm not sure if i can help". Now he would like to be able to go apply for the work permit or visa himself. He just needs someone like an agent in Jamaica that would know what documentation is needed along with the forms.

my question to all of you is, what are the other ways he can get help & which visa (or is it the work permit and that will give him his visa?) can a low skilled worker apply for?

Because nobody knows how the SAWP program works, It is slightly different in each province. In most cases the farmer applies for the LMO and then the Jamaican Gov. agency selects the worker. Never heard of a person doing it directly.

the thing is; i'm looking to see how we can get him help to apply for his work permit himself, so i don't need anyone's knowledge about the SAWP.........
can you provide information on the Work Permit and how to properly apply for it? (if you read my original message more carefully, the question is the very last phrase, i want help with all the information that is relevant when applying for a WP yourelf, so we don't need to go through the SAWP, since he got the job himself! both the LMO and Contract are specific to him.)

Then he goes to the Kingston web site and completes the forms and applies for a work permit. http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/jamaica-jamaique/visas/work_temp_travailler.aspx

i know about the applications and all the links to them from the cic to the the link you just posted. what i wanted to know is the rest of the info that is not given on the website (this is why i asked "what other ways can he get help"). what documents exactly they are looking for him to get? his children and wife aren't going to accompany him, does he needs to add their birth certificates still, since the form ask for all children and family information? perhaps it would be best for him to seek someone locally that knows how to fill such applications. i dunno how many times i seen them (applications), and it's always vague as to what documents they want included with them... i want to make sure that if he pays 150$ canadian, it's at least filled properly because, as a low skilled worker, he is quite poor.

You need the job offer/contract and HRSDC confirmation (LMO) before you can apply for a work permit.
