I cannot emphasize too much the importance of proper spelling/grammar on resumes as well!! When I'm looking at them for my very small business, I wouldn't even consider someone who can't take the effort of ensuring their spelling and grammar are correct!

Totally agree with you!! Bad spelling and grammar shows a very lackadaisical attitude!!

I have to tell you how interesting a read the original post was. I haven't applied for a job in hmmm not sure how long the last job I was hired for was in 2000 but did not have to apply or interview for it. Since then I have been the owner on the other side of the table doing the hiring. I have to say the lists put forth have been excellent but I wonder if most small boutique type operations like mine do not look at the things listed in such depth. I have a feeling you have now filled my head with things that I will not be able to avoid looking at in future interviews... so thanks for that hahaha.... great lists for job hunters for sure.

Hahaha, full marks for effort, but no we would never hire anyone in a temp position and currently we only have offices in Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong so might be a bit far for the interview ;D Hopefully we will open a Vancouver office in the next few months but of course that depends on good old CIC :'(

Agreed and that is why you will likely find a job more quickly than many others.. nothing wrong with putting yourself out there that is the only way to let people know you are serious about working... good luck with it.

Well I had two interviews today..both of which I cancelled!

In my zest to apply for jobs, I did not check companies profiles. Last night I researched on 'Rate my employer Website', I read so many disgusting things about one of the two companies that I decided to call and cancel the interview.

Basically I was going for a HR Coordinator Position. Turns out that this company, does not pay on time their workers, does not pay over time (they try all means to get out of it with excuses), are currently under investigation for unsafe work practices, and the Union is trying to get in. One person even said...they pry on 'immigrants' who are looking for jobs because they like to take advantage of this sector since those people need jobs.

Well that was too much for me to read! The last thing i want to do is work for a company like that with horrid Hr practices (Cause I won't be able to live with myself), and I am certain they are gonna pin shit on me when they get reported.

On other news I have another interview for tomorrow. Hubby has also found some more jobs for me to apply.

I am planning to migrate in Saskatoon. Do you have any idea of the job market in the city?

20. Do not despair. From my experience, By the time the person opens their mouth, I know if I am interested. Don't ever take anything personal. Its all about fitting into a culture. The recruiter will know. So if you wonder why even if you had the best of qualifications, its simply your personality won't fit in. Thus never take it personal. And don't bother to re apply to the company for any future positions. Recruiters have databases of all rejected candidates and once your name pops on a search, they will not bother with you.



Aww, was hoping this wouldn't be true, as I applied for a company and I was rejected possibly for not having enough Canadian experience Now I got another job but I'm still interested on this company for a position in the future.. Oh well

No idea what the market is like in Saskatoon. You may need to talk to people in that city when you arrive to gain an understanding of the market. What your hubby can do,as what mine did, was to ask his co workers about finding a job and what their advices would be. HE took that information and passed it on to me. Several of his co workers also took copies of my resumes and passed it on to people that they knew.

Not sure! I can only speak for what I have learnt for what is needed for HR Professionals.
He needs to do some research.I am sure he will have to have his qualifications assessed, go back to school, join the engineering association as he is a professional that is normally the route.
He should start going into recruitment agencies and take whatever advice is given with regard to his resume. Thats what I have done.
