Hello all,

I've pretty much got the process for exporting our car from the US to Canada figured out, with one exception. I called Toyota to ask about getting their permission to remove the car from the US and they said I just needed to write them a letter making the request but that I also needed to fax them a copy of "the Transit Insurance Policy insuring the vehicle from port to port."

I have no idea what a "transit insurance policy" is. It sounds like they think I am having my car shipped, rather than driving it.

Can anybody on the forum shed some light?

Thanks very much!

Is your car financed by Toyota? If not, why are you seeking Toyota's approval? You can the recall letter from their owner's website directly (they are one of the easiest to deal with).

That being said, you should make sure that your US insurance covers you in Canada or get a temporary policy. They should issue you a yellow non-resident proof of insurance card that you can use as proof of insurance in Canada up until you register your vehicle in Canada.
