Hi,

I am applying for EE under CEC. Myself and my wife - both - still carry old passports and we havent added each other as spouse in passport records, so we carry different last name.

Now, what documents do I need to provide to CIC with my EE applicaiton to prove that we are married?

Why don't you provide "marriage certificate"?

Or else just apply for a updated passport but they might also ask u for a marriage certificate for the updation.

marriage Certificate: Is a stamped letter from the Civil Court that signifies that two people got married to each other on the specified date in front of witnesses who sign below along with the registrar

You will need to show more than a name change in the passport as proof of marriage. A document from a court is usually what they ask for. If it is not in English or French, it needs to be translated and then notarized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for authenticity. That's what I did.

Got married in Dubai. The certificate is originally typed in Arabic. Got it translated and then notarized it by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as they verify the translation word to word.

A lot of people do not change names after marriage. Hence CIC won't accept the passport as proof of marriage.

I do have marriage certificate issued by government and it is certified as true copy by Indian notary. I heard that it should be notarized by ministry of external affairs
