Hello,,!! my mother is in Canada for about 4 years now and her application for permanent residence under the LC2 category is currently on process,, Her application had already reached the Manila office and we are currently completing the application forms..

I am 23 years old and will be turning 24 this coming September,, I had finished my bachelor's degree last 2010 and because my mother declared me as her dependent, I enrolled again not for another bachelor's degree but rather for my master's. I graduated my master's degree last March 2013 and now currently enrolled for Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Just this month (July), as I have mentioned earlier, we have received the request to send back a completed application form thus I need to present that I am my mother's dependent child under Type B.

My problem now is that one of my schoolmates told me that someone she knew who had also been declared as dependent child and had enrolled with her master's degree was denied for her visa. I am worried that I would also have the same faith as that person,,

Can anyone enlighten me on post graduate degree for Canadian immigration's dependent child policy,, Thank you.. :)

Hi

Never rely on second-hand information from "someone that knew someone who was refused because". It is usually wrong.

There is no distinction by CIC between doing a bachelor's or a master's. As said on their website:

continuously enrolled in and in attendance as a full‑time student at a post‑secondary institution accredited by the relevant government authority and has depended substantially on the financial support of a parent either:

- since before the age of 22 or
- since marrying or entering into a common-law relationship (if it happened before the age of 22)

No mention that the dependent can only be doing a bachelor's.

Were you under 22 when she sent her application in? If you were, your age would have been locked in and you would not have to continue your studies. If not, you would have to continue your studies. Granted there is no mention that you must be doing bachelors but immigration may still check if it looks like you are continuing to take courses after your studies should normally be completed and whether it looks like you are just enrolling to keep your dependent child status. However, there is nothing much you can do about that but wait and see what they'll do.
